Hello! Going in to MOC soon, I am trying to remember what it feels like to get a page done in a timely manner. I joined in with Monica and Scrapping with Liz's Make It Scrappy (MIS) this past weekend and this was my thought process and approach. For starters, who has time to search through their entire camera roll or back-up folder of photos that dates back to the dawn of digital photography when scrapping for MOC unless the photo is specified? (Wait! You aren't sure what Month of Challenges is? Check out the forum here for some info and join us in January!)So anyway, no, I scroll back through anything marked as 'favourite' in my phone for a few minutes max. The first photo (or set) that I have a title idea for, instantly wins and that's what I'm scrapping if it fits all the other challenge requirements. Today it's bird photos (if you know me, I'm sure you're shocked, or rather, … [Read more...]
Zooming In: Hybrid & Cut-file Shadow Study
In the last Zooming In blog post, I talked about how the parts and details can really make or elevate the whole. As someone that thinks about realism often while digiscrapping, I've been enjoying seeing all the Hybrid Gallery projects lately, and especially the different perspectives and angled photos that show how real paper and element layers sit and interact with lighting. If you aren't sure what I mean, it's posts like these linked below from annsofie, dawnmarch and mocamom among others - all the hybrid people are inspiring! They take digital products from the store and print them to use in a more traditional way. The Hybrid Gallery has everything from flat and pop-up cards and bookmarks through to travellers notebooks and traditional scrapping and pocket pages. The bear bookmark corner really shows the difference lighting can have. See the difference in the two ear … [Read more...]
SOSN Stash Mash – Sept 6, 2023
Hi there, if you are a regular visitor to the TLP Blog, you might remember the Monday Mash-up Series from last year, where we looked at strategies to step outside the ‘one kit only’ scrapping box to increase your confidence in mixing and matching and ability to stretch your stash. (And if you didn’t see any of them, you are forgiven LOL and the good news is you can still access them). Anyway, with all those lessons up our sleeves, this year I’m introducing the SOSN Stash Mash!Every Wednesday when TLP Designers put a selection of goodies on sale at half price (here’s a link to this week’s specials category), I’m reminded of some specific treasures I have in my stash and feel inspired to pull them out from the depths of my harddrive again. And I know now that I can find a few kits among that day’s selection that will work perfectly together to tell my stories and support and enhance my … [Read more...]
Zooming In: Layout Analysis with Close-Ups
"The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts”. You might know this quote, attributed to philosopher Aristotle. It's another way of saying all the little pieces of a system or larger entity are even more important when put together, because they play off each other and have a synergistic effect. The quote is a bit controversial in theory and attribution, but it justifies a closer look at any 'whole' to appreciate everything that it contains and benefits from. In scrapbooking we can see this in action in everything from kit previews, that show the synergy of so many pieces and elements against patterns and papers, to completed layouts, where the synergy can come not only from the combination of elements, photos, fonts and papers as pieces, but also in the way each piece is used and positioned to create the whole.Today I'm getting out the virtual magnifying glass to zoom-in on parts … [Read more...]

Beginners Mixed Media: Emboss like a boss!
Hi there, if you've been following along on my beginning mixed media 'journey', (yeah I know, everything is a journey these days, I really don't mean to make this sound like an arduous reality show), anyway I've looked at a few ways to add (the illusion of) texture to my digital papers, I've played with (digital) textured paint and torn paper layers. Today I'm playing along with the May Random Challenge with Kayla that involves butterflies and I'm going to make a mixed media page and use embossing to create some texture and subtle interest.Embossing in real world scrapping means a shape or text has a raised profile and feels 'bumpy' and the same look can be recreated in digiscrapping by adding bevelling and changing the light and shadowing. In the real world, there are a few ways to emboss an image but one way involves a piece of plastic or metal with a raised image or design on the … [Read more...]
