1-Sheet Mother’s Day Trifold Box Card

As a Guest Pollywog this month, I have a confession to make. I’m a hoarder. I hoard all things scrappy, both paper and digital, yet I almost never make cards. So, when the opportunity arose for me to share a blog project with our wonderful community, I knew that I had to challenge myself to create a hybrid Mother’s Day card that incorporated items from my stash and kits from our awesome designers here at The Lilypad. The card I decided to make has a base that uses only a single sheet of 12x12 cardstock, which is folded and scored to create an impressive trifold, flip-out card in just a few simple steps. What you add to it to create your own gorgeous creation is limited only by your imagination. Let’s get started!STEP 1: Trim .25” off the right side of a 12x12 sheet of cardstock.STEP 2: Without changing the orientation of your paper, create vertical score lines at … [Read more...]

Hybrid Shaker Card

Hey there, it's Katrina sharing a hybrid shaker card with you today.  This is a fun way to put some "wow" into your cards.  It does take a little work and practice, but it's a good way to put those traditional supplies that you may still have (or want to shop for!) to good use!I used a collab kit from Little Butterfly Wings/Studio Basic for my card.  It's the Carpe Diem bundle and I am IN LOVE with this collection!  I have already done this card, plus another hybrid layout with it!I am going to take you thru a few of the steps of making this.  First you need to cut out a shape on your card front/base.  I attached my pattern paper and then cut out the opening with some metal dies and a manual die cutting machine. You could also do this with your electronic machine, but I was just playing around and experimenting!Next, you need to cover your opening with a piece of … [Read more...]

Create a Card: Packaging Technique for Backgrounds

I enjoy giving cards to family and friends.  Cards are perfect way to send birthday wishes, celebrate a special event, or even to just say hello to someone.  I always try to have a selection of homemade cards on hand to give out for any of these occasions.  I’ve noticed my supply of cards has been getting a bit low and committed myself to making a few cards to bolster it up.  New adventures/traveling is the theme of today’s card. I also am sharing a video on how to create a card background using the packaging technique.I know quite a few people who are starting new adventures this fall.  While adventures can be exciting they can also be nerve wracking too.  What better way to help calm the nerves of someone than to give them a homemade card with well wishes in it?  A card about exploring the world was begging to be made.To make this card I used the following supplies: Roam … [Read more...]

Create a Card: Custom Background

I really enjoy giving cards to family and friends. Birthday invitations is the type of card I'm sharing today.  I am also sharing a tip on how to create your own custom background.Birthday invitations has been on my mind lately.  I have three birthday parties to plan all within the next month.  Instead of buying cards at the store, I decided to make my own design.  I kept the invitation simple, but customized the background to represent the theme of my daughters birthday party.  It will also be easy to take my design and change out the colors to work for … [Read more...]

Create a Card: Dimensional Backgrounds

I really enjoy giving cards to family and friends. Teacher appreciation is the theme of today’s card. I also am sharing a tip about how to create a dimensional background for your card.Teacher appreciation is right around the corner.  I wanted to give something meaningful but also simple to my child's teacher.  I thought a card with a book for the classroom library would be perfect.  A card about bookworms seemed to match the gift perfectly. To make this card I used the following supplies: I Like Big Books by Kristin Aagard Digital … [Read more...]
