How I love to look at ladies nails when I am out and about. I was thinking about this the other day, my best friend in real life, is very quiet and conservative. I look over at her short and rather nicely rounded nails and they were deep dark black. I laughed and she said, I felt like going a bit wild! Wild with black! Black used to be Goth and depressing. Black is the new red, and it comes in so many shades of black!Nail varnish in general originated in China circa 3000 B.C., and was made with a mixture of egg whites, beeswax, gelatin, and Arabic gum. Used by almost anyone who could afford it, nail polish was a way to convey a person’s social status and, unsurprisingly, was one of the Royal Family’s favorite way to showcase power and richness. While the Chou Dynasty (600 B.C.) mainly used gold, and silver nail varnishes, the majority of the other dynasties painted their nails … [Read more...]

Hybrid Birthday Card
Hi friends!!!I'm excited to share a hybrid birthday card that was so to make with you today! If you're not sure you can do a hybrid project, such as a homemade card, I urge you to give a simple project like this a try. When I saw the Sprinkles stickers and papers by Becca Bonneville in the shop last weekend, I just knew I had to use them for birthday cards! I made two cards to share with you today, but these supplies can be used to make a number of different cards that would be adorable for anyone's birthday. To make these cards, I first created a 5.5 x 4.25 inch document in Photoshop. I then layered papers and stickers on this document to make the front of the card, adding shadows to the paper and sticker layers.I repeated this process to make a second card front with a different design. The formula I used for the card design is a solid paper on the bottom … [Read more...]

Scrapping and Staying Healthy
Scrapping; be it memory keeper, altered art maker or just art journaling, causes us to move less. Studies EVERYwhere show, moving less can cause your body to grow larger in places you don't want to grow. Staying healthy sitting in front of a computer for hours and hours with a bowl of M&Ms or box of Chez-Its (my favorite) can really mess with your ability to maintain our girlish figures. Today, lets talk of things that can be done.Setting time parameters for scrapping is a good beginning. I have a semi tough rule that I am doing, I must do ONE housework chore and exercise before sitting down to scrap. That way, when I eat my Chez-Its, no guilt if I have done treadmill already.Sitting for long periods of time in front of a computer is tough on the body, we all know that. I try and get up every 45 minutes (yep, timer is the key) to walk around, water my plants (a chore … [Read more...]
Hybrid Bookmarks

In fact, there is even a space dedicated to talking about our love of reading in the forums here at The Lilypad. The Reading Pad even has a monthly book club.I exceeded my reading goal last year and I'm looking forward to tackling a new reading goal this year. I love having cute bookmarks on hand to use when I'm reading. I love the quote, "Bookmarks are for Quitters." It's cute, but not very realistic??One of the easiest hybrid projects that I absolutely love is making bookmarks. I just made a fresh batch and thought I would share these with you along with the instructions for how I made them.I used Page Turner by Paislee Press and One More Chapter by Soco Designs to create these cute bookmarks. There are lots of adorable book-themed kits in the store.I made these … [Read more...]
