How I love to look at ladies nails when I am out and about. I was thinking about this the other day, my best friend in real life, is very quiet and conservative. I look over at her short and rather nicely rounded nails and they were deep dark black. I laughed and she said, I felt like going a bit wild! Wild with black! Black used to be Goth and depressing. Black is the new red, and it comes in so many shades of black!
Nail varnish in general originated in China circa 3000 B.C., and was made with a mixture of egg whites, beeswax, gelatin, and Arabic gum. Used by almost anyone who could afford it, nail polish was a way to convey a person’s social status and, unsurprisingly, was one of the Royal Family’s favorite way to showcase power and richness.
While the Chou Dynasty (600 B.C.) mainly used gold, and silver nail varnishes, the majority of the other dynasties painted their nails black or red, with the former being particularly considered a synonym for royalty itself.
Black forever has been almost always been avoided. It has always been more of a rebellion then a fashion statement. Gucci way back in 1999, made it a must have color! Once you go emo with your nails, you will never go back. Even the bottles are so way cool:
I went researching for this blog, and giggled at the names of black polish; Licorice, After Dark, Dirty Baby, Liquid Leather, Lincoln Park After Dark (It’s equal parts blood red, plum purple, and inky black, depending on the light you’re in.), Claudine (black with a fine gold shimmer) Get this description; It’s dark, warm and insanely chic.
Black is way amazing, going with shiny, to almost plastic look is just eye catching. Then there is the new matte color too, and you can mix with the shiny for a way cool effect also! You can stay with the monochrome black or to the shimmering, glitter options too. Just looking at these nails, makes me want to pull out my polish and go all shiny black and chic. Remember, patience is the key when painting black upon your nails. Go for the light strokes, at least 3 layers. Build it up gradually, and then it won’t be so thick and clumpy.
Go Big, go Black and be Chic with me!
