Hi, all! Sarah here! I'm so excited to share my process of creating a hybrid layout with you. Since I'm on creative teams, I almost always start with the product. For this layout I chose I Whaley Like You by Valorie Wibbens. I just love puns and I knew this would be a fun kit to work with. There are lots of elements that are great for print and cut and so many paper choices that I just love. After I choose my kit I begin thinking about photos. If I choose to use a photo I print it on my Canon Selphy. I just love this little printer, and love being able to print on demand. I decided that this photo of my daughter and nephew would be perfect since I haven't scrapped a lot of layouts about just the two of them.My next step is to print and cut my digi elements that I want to use for my layout. I tend to make up my layouts as I go along, so I print out anything that I think I … [Read more...]

Freeze! Using Shutter Speed with Summer Water Photos
Hi Happy Scrappers!Polly Liana here today with a few tips about how to use your camera's shutter speed settings to create the best summer water photos. For those of us here in the Northern Hemisphere, 'tis the season for sprinklers, puddles, pools and waves. No doubt you'll be wanting to capture some of that water fun with your camera this summer. If your camera has settings for shutter speed then you're in luck-- you'll be able to effectively "freeze" those water droplets and splashes, making for a much more interesting photo.First, some words about shutter speed. Shutter speed is the amount of time your camera's shutter (kind of like its "eye") is open to "see" an image. It's how photographers capture all those cool stop motion images like hummingbirds, lightning and bullets going through apples. On your settings dial, it's usually marked with a "T" (for "time"). If it's … [Read more...]
The Hybrid Variety Show – Doilies
It's time for another edition of The Hybrid Variety Show. This month we are going to show you some gorgeous creations using doilies. You might have noticed the doily trend and if you are a fan of doilies, as I am, you will really appreciate the current Trend Watch. Guess what? It's doilies! You can snag a plethora of doilies while they are sale! Once you see what we've done with doilies we hope you will be inspired to create something too! Sarah created this precious mini album using doilies as the base for her pages. How creative is that? It is an adorable keepsake for sure. Here is what Sarah had to say about her project:When I first heard that doilies were the topic of this post I knew right away I wanted to create a mini album out of doilies. I landed on Down the Lane Ephemera by Sahlin Studio and immediately knew that this would be great base for my mini … [Read more...]
Trend Watch-Doilies
Doilies are not just for crocheting and Grandma's nick knacks anymore! They are so versatile on pages and are the TREND Watch this time around. I went through rather quickly in the gallery to find a few different ways to inspire you to use doilies: Jenn McCabe, one of the awesome guest Pollys this month put this together (not even in the gallery yet, you see it first) and I adore the way the doilies are peeking out not just behind the subject, but over the photo of the Ice Tea maker. The paints behind the doilies make them stand out a bit more too, a great way to utilize this TREND WATCH:The intricate cuts in a doily really add so much, then layer more sprinkles and fun on top of it and your eye is drawn to the circular subject matter without even having to make a full circle. Very pleasing and AmandaC(my partner and crime as a Polly) shows it off perfectly here in … [Read more...]
Preparing to Capture Your Disney Vacation: Plan Your Approach
I'm back again with another installment of my Preparing to Capture Your Disney Vacation series. Last time, we talked about choosing the tools you could use to capture your Disney vacation. I also shared with you what tools I've used in the past, and what tools I am planning on using on my upcoming August trip. Today, I want to talk about planning your approach before you even leave for your trip.Plan Your ApproachWhen I am capturing memories, I always find it easier to do if I know what the end result will look like. I think that's one of the things that draws me to Project Life, I always know what type of layout my photos will end up in, and I can take them accordingly. I've found the same goes for when I am capturing memories to document our Disney vacations. There's a lot to consider when you are planning your approach for capturing your Disney vacation. Let's take it step by … [Read more...]
Pocket Scrapping Art Journaling: Keeping it Simple
Hi everyone, Sarah here and I'm excited to share a few more of my art journaling pocket pages with you. The thing that I absolutely love about this set of pocket pages is that they are done entirely with premade journaling cards and nothing else. There are no extra embellishments, I didn't add any stamps or washi tape, and no alphabet stickers. I simply took the journal cards as is, and added my journaling, either by hand, or by typing on the digital version of the journal card before printing. There are so many amazing journal card packs in the store, I thought this was a great way to showcase the amazing work of The Lilypad designers, while taking inspiration from these cards and adding my own voice to them.I chose these two packs to work with.Life in Color by CD Muckosky.Wishful Heart Cards by Sara Gleason. For this first page I really embraced the art journaling … [Read more...]
