Hello everyone! I'm dropping in today with a quick tip for integrating text with painted elements. Have you ever found the perfect word art element and wanted to use it on top of a painted background? Take a look at this layout and the word art in the bottom right corner of the page: Notice that the left side of the first couple of lines looks like it was actually written over the pink paint. This is a super easy look to achieve in Photoshop or PSE with just a couple of blending mode adjustments. Let's start with a comparison of the before and after looks: Notice how the blended version has a more artistic effect? The writing appears as if it was integrated with the paint, not just sitting on top of it. It was "oh so easy" too with the blending modes in Photoshop and PSE. Fly Into April’s M3!
Hello Pad Scrappers!Polly Liana here, hoping you're staying safe and cozy inside with people you like. I'm so excited because today we are releasing our M3 collection for April. For those new to the concept, M3 stands for Mixed Media Monthly. Every month around this time, some of the very talented designers in mixed media collaborate around a group of words or concepts and a color palette. This month's concept is aptly named "This Storm Shall Pass." Here's the main kit:I love the mellow grays and blues with little bits of red and yellow peeking out. Perfect colors for the current moment in our lives. Hope is coming, it's peeking out at us.After the main kit is released, the designers can then follow their individual tastes and develop add-on kits that coordinate with the main kit. Here are a few that have been released already: Great, right? I feel … [Read more...]

I do want to give out a disclaimer, though...virtual background work best if you have a solid color background, preferably a GREEN solid color background.Follow these instructions to use your own virtual background to use on zoom: Enable the Zoom backgrounds feature in your account settings. Log into the desktop application and click on the settings icon in the top right corner. Under the Virtual Background tab, you can choose from stock options or upload an image via the + icon … [Read more...]

Since she passed away three years ago, I wanted to make something that she used to bake that was comforting to me. Plus - my kids were all excited to cook. They were bored - ok.Now, the difference between my mother & I is this - everything she cooked, could have been featured in one of those fancy cooking blogs. You know the ones, the ones where they talk about how crisp the fall air is as they are featuring a recipe for an apple pie. Me...not so much. Now, my food taste good - it's just not pretty! Please remember that with the photos below lol Just keeping it real here ya know! So, I made my mom's famous Banana Cake - and I just love old hand written recipes, especially when they say "oleo" as an ingredient. Brings out the Mayberry in me. … [Read more...]
