Hi there! Are you enjoying your Summer or dreaming of beach days while huddling under blankets on the other side of the world like me? I saw Courtney's Photography prompt in the July Challenges is Water and I know my Summer photos used to be filled with water play and I was always looking for ways to amp up the water vibe in my page design! Let me share some of *your* pages that caught my eye in the gallery and have me layout planning pages featuring movement and waves – click on through to the gallery for full images, credits and to comment on any you love too!____________________________________________________________________ I’m loving the variety of ways mixed media has been used, from doodley waves to brushed lines and masked in paper and paint to extend a photo and bring movement into the page, and how that can be both tranquil and energetic! Layering … [Read more...]
SOSN Stash Mash – June 28, 2023
Hi there, if you are a regular visitor to the TLP Blog, you might remember the Monday Mash-up Series from last year, where we looked at strategies to step outside the ‘one kit only’ scrapping box to increase your confidence in mixing and matching and ability to stretch your stash. (And if you didn’t see any of them, you are forgiven LOL and the good news is you can still access them). Anyway, with all those lessons up our sleeves, this year I’m introducing the SOSN Stash Mash!Every Wednesday when TLP Designers put a selection of goodies on sale at half price (here’s a link to this week’s specials category), I’m reminded of some specific treasures I have in my stash and feel inspired to pull them out from the depths of my harddrive again. And I know now that I can find a few kits among that day’s selection that will work perfectly together to tell my stories and support and enhance my … [Read more...]
Beginners Mixed Media: Mesmerizing Marble!
After over a year now of both digital mixed media experimentation here on the blog and looking at home renovation inspiration images and samples for tiles and benchtops in real life, today I'm bringing in the marbled look to my digi layout. (Inspiration is everywhere, right?!). Marbling is a fun technique to create your own paper and paper -based elements in paper crafting.I remember making 'marbled prints' for art when I was in school, using a container full of water with some oily drops of coloured dye or ink floating on the surface, mix with a toothpick to create a swirled pattern and then lay some thick plain white paper over the top to absorb the marble magic, and voila! (You can also apparently use shaving cream, milk or other substances to hold your coloured pigments of varying kinds (Google has lots of how-to links) and the marbled effect is fun surprise every time). In … [Read more...]
Fab Dad Friday: Title Ideas
Happy Friday everyone! Sunday is Father's Day and I know as memory keepers we try to get all the people, places and stories happening in our lives documented and on the page. This doesn't leave a lot of time or brain power (lol) left to think up cool, funny, and/or interesting titles for our pages. Good thing I'm all about the words. So I'm here to share some fun ideas for titles and a quote or two that would be fun to add to our Father's Day pages this year or any year really.Let's talk titles first. There's lots of places to find inspiration these days and Google is just one of them. I perused the web and found a few fun title ideas like: The Man. The Myth. The Legend Worst Jokes. Best Dad. Thanks for your genes, I'm perfect! Dad to the Bone Daditude Brand New DaddyI also love checking out greeting cards and t-shirts for fun title ideas like these: The … [Read more...]
Beginners Mixed Media: Emboss like a boss!
Hi there, if you've been following along on my beginning mixed media 'journey', (yeah I know, everything is a journey these days, I really don't mean to make this sound like an arduous reality show), anyway I've looked at a few ways to add (the illusion of) texture to my digital papers, I've played with (digital) textured paint and torn paper layers. Today I'm playing along with the May Random Challenge with Kayla that involves butterflies and I'm going to make a mixed media page and use embossing to create some texture and subtle interest.Embossing in real world scrapping means a shape or text has a raised profile and feels 'bumpy' and the same look can be recreated in digiscrapping by adding bevelling and changing the light and shadowing. In the real world, there are a few ways to emboss an image but one way involves a piece of plastic or metal with a raised image or design on the … [Read more...]
Earth Day Inspiration
Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 — which started in 1970 — every year we demonstrate support for environmental protection. Or rather, protection of our Earth, since we only get one planet. (at least until they figure out how to get us to Mars....lol)Protecting our planet from things like pollution and deforestation is a huge deal and countries, cities & states across the world remember this goal by having local charity events, marches and festivals in honor of the day. Even corporations are jumping on board to make efforts by hosting online events & sales. Going "green" is everywhere these days and while not all of us are into sustainable fashion or global cleanups, there are small steps we all can take to make this planet better everyday.I visited the Earth Day website and they had an awesome page with tips. Here are few easy things we all can and should try to … [Read more...]
