We all make mistakes…And I’m not talking about choosing the wrong paper, or scrapping the wrong picture, or even messing up the details of the memory…those are all pretty open to interpretation. Hardcore mistakes, though, are enough to make you think “Man, I wish I hadn’t done that!” I have a strict rule of not saving psd files, or usually even going back and making changes on a layout, so when I make a mistake, I have to live with it. These are the three biggest mistakes I usually make.I don’t check the spelling. Of everything. – This has come back to burn me more times than I would like to admit, you know, being a teacher and all. Once, my wife noticed one of my layouts and said, “That’s nice Aaron.” I was so thankful that she had recognized the beauty of the layout I had created until I realized that she was referring to my glaring spelling error in the title. Spring Pages
Spring is the start of my favorite time of year, the time of longer days, more colorful scenery and outdoor adventures. I always get an extra special bit of happiness when I see spring themed pages in the gallery. This month the journaling challenge is about "spring" and the gallery is overflowing with pretty spring pages! For me, spring brings to mind Easter, budding trees, cherry blossom trees and tulips. I have a tulip in my garden that has just broken throught the soil and I eagerly await its blooming. The birds come all year round to our suet feeder on our back porch but they start to come more frequently, starting at the end of March, and nothing is more peaceful and entertaining, in the morning time, as I drink my coffee and read my book, to look out and watch the flurry of activity as the birds come and go, chasing each other away from the feeder.Spring means something … [Read more...]
Artsy Photos
Happy Saturday everyone! I just wanted to jump in with a quick tip for creating artsy layouts. I love the artsy/painty kits and elements and tend to create photo-less, art journal type pages with them. However, these kits and elements can create awesome pages to highlight your own photos too. One trick I love is taking my photos and applying an artsy filter to them to help them blend more seamlessly with the artsy style of the page. Of course, sketch filters are my favorite (one look at my gallery definitely confirms it) - but any artsy type filter will do the job. Here are a couple examples of this technique in action. (Both of them use elements from different kits in the "of so awesome" April BYOC Collection.) As you can see, this page uses the sketch photo as a background element, with a more traditional style photo in a frame. … [Read more...]
