Graduation! Scrap that CAP!
The end of May, beginning of June in the Northern Hemisphere means graduations are happening! What is the Alice Cooper chorus?:No more Pencils, No More Books,No more Teacher's Dirty Looks! This is a time of last steps and next steps in life are beginning! I have been already to a Head Start (pre-school) graduation, (complete with cap and gown), a Kindergarten one, (that the kids made their own caps, and sang amazing songs!), and then the big one in our town is the High School. There are no boundaries to the celebrations for that day. The step into adulthood is legally already there for most, and the rest are almost to the coveted age of 18.Ceremonies are always there to put a crowning point on the accomplishments of life. The ceremony is a separation of particular society, proclaiming your knowledge or values learned and also transforming into society with a new … [Read more...]
White Textured Backgrounds in Photoshop
Hello all my artsy friends! I'm dropping in today with a quick tip for creating textured white backgrounds for your digital scrapbooking pages. Are you in love with pure white backgrounds? If you take a look at my Gallery you will see that most of my pages are created on some type of white or white-ish background. I love the pop you get from the contrast between the white background and colored elements - especially bright colors. However, sometimes I get a little bored with smooth backgrounds and want to add a pop of texture to them. One quick and easy way to do this is to use a blocked template with white papers for the background and add elements on top. Take a look at this layout for an example of this technique: See the pop of texture you get with the layered white papers? All I did was use a blocked template and clipped different white … [Read more...]
Beautiful Backgrounds with Alcohol Ink
Hi Pad Scrappers!Polly Liana here with a fun activity that is perfect for doing outdoors with kids AND will make some fun backgrounds for hybrid projects. I've been getting into using alcohol ink lately and I'm really loving it. It's more vibrant than watercolor and a lot more forgiving, in general (which is great when you're just starting out). For this project, you'll need: alcohol inks in desired colors alcohol blending solution an ink blending tool and felt (not foam) circle tips attached a ball stylus and/or pens in accent colors Yupo paper or glossy cardstockIt also helps to have baby wipes and rubbing alcohol for clean up.Important: using these inks can be toxic so it's important to do this activity outside. Also, it is absolutely vital that there is an adult supervising any children working with these inks at all times. Lastly, these … [Read more...]
Paper Borders
A fun way to work with digital paper is to use it to create a page border. You can use solid or patterned paper. One or more papers can be layered together to create an interesting page border.Determine which paper you would like to use. Do you want a tone on tone look (same color) or do you want a contrasting border? Do you want it to be subdued colors/patterns or would you like something solid or maybe bold? There are so many ways to go with this. For my sample page, I chose a paper I loved as soon as I saw it. This paper with the scallop doodle on it by Little Butterfly Wings (SummerScape kit) caught my eye and fit in with the neutral page border I wanted to create. I knew the main portion of my page was going to be colorful so I wanted to keep the border low key, not distracting from the main focus but enhancing it. I dragged the paper onto my page and selected a wide strip … [Read more...]
