Mummy Cupcakes
Every year for Halloween I throw a little "party" for my kids before they head out trick-or-treating. This consists of a plethora of Halloween-themed foods. This year I am making "Mummy Cupcakes" for our dessert. For these cupcakes, you need a chocolate cake mix and all the ingredients to make them, buttercream frosting, and M&M candies.First, make the chocolate cupcakes, following the directions on the package. Then, put your buttercream frosting in a piping bag and cut the tip off the bottom of the bag. After the cupcakes are cooled, you're going to pipe the frosting on in a zig-zag pattern to make your mummies. Then simply place two colored M&M candies on the cupcakes for the eyes. These are great to have the kids join you in the kitchen as helpers! My daughter loved putting the eyes on the cupcakes for me. She also enjoyed tasting the chocolate batter as … [Read more...]
Quick Halloween Treat Bags
There is always that unexpected thing that comes up with holidays. A party, a gift exchange, etc. Halloween isn't an exception! This is a quick idea for some make ahead treat bags to keep on hand for those little (or big) goblins. These are also cute for your co-workers!These are super quick to make and you can even have the kiddos help fill bags. I "may" have snacked a little while filling these!Start by creating your printable in PS, or your program of choice. I can do quite a few, because I have a wide format printer, but these will work on a regular sized printer no problem! I used a sheet of pattern paper, created some white boxes on top and then filled the boxes with elements from Allison Pennington's Little Monsters for these. Such a cute kit! After you get your printable printed out (ha ha!) then trim down each tag. I actually made these too big, I would have … [Read more...]

Photograph Fall Colors
The colors and textures of the fall season always get me excited to get my camera out and take photos. Every September I start to anticipate the coming weeks ahead when the leaves will start to change color, they will fall to the ground, crunching as I walk across them. When you think of fall, you think of vivid warm colors but fall is also a time when the leaves mold and wither, the trees become bare and stark. It is all interesting to photograph, so take time to look around you, see the light and the dark, the vivid and the subdued colors and textures. We had a very dry summer which was very unusual for the west coast of BC and although I enjoyed so many days of sunshine, I also knew that it probably meant that the fall scenery wouldn't be as vivid, as lush, as usual because the greenery was already dry and brittle by the time September came along. Generally I … [Read more...]
Painted Photos
Hello all my artsy friends! I'm dropping in with a quick tip on making artsy pages with what appear to be more traditional digital scrapbooking templates. I don't know about you, but I love it when I find ways to extend my digi-stash and use one template to create a number of different designs. For example, take a look at this page that I created (mainly with kits and templates available in today's SOSN sale): Do you recognize is as coming from this fabulous template by Fiddle-Dee-Dee Designs (from Pumpkin Party {Dressed Up})? The only parts that I removed from the template are the photo spots and the scatters. What you cannot see from the photo above is the gorgeous paint element beneath all of the elements. Paint elements in templates are fabulous because they can used as a placeholder for paints from a digital kit, … [Read more...]
