Kid Friendly April Fools’ Day Pranks are fun when I am the one sharing the prank, not the one being pranked. In our house we are all about pranking, as long as there is no physical threat or damage. Over the years I have been able to pull off some pretty crafty pranks. Truth be told, the kids love to see the silly side of mom and April Fools’ Day is the perfect excuse for silliness.
For many years my children have suffered through a series of pranks every April Fools’ Day. Here is just a small sampling of my twisted tricks, the family friendly ones of course.
Mixing up cereal is one of my favorites. While the kids are asleep, I simply switch the cereal bags from two different brands of cereal. This one is super easy and really starts the day with a kick, because their heads are still foggy from sleep. The confusion on my son’s face in the image below is priceless!!
Another sneaky prank that I have pulled time and time again is to switch their chips. This one takes a little pre-planning, and a little effort. I actually have to resort to using some craft supplies for this prank. Here’s what I do: Carefully pry open the bottom of two different types of chips. The small bags work best. Empty the contents of one bag of chips into a bowl. Pour the contents of one bag into the empty bag, then pour the contents of the bowl into the empty bag. Tuck a note inside each bag. Finally, use double sided tape or a dry adhesive runner to seal the bag. In the image below my son has just realized that there are very messy Cheetos (he’s not a fan) in his Fritos bag.
Here is a close-up of the chips with the note.
Here is another version of the chip switch. This time I put Puffed Corn in place of Funyuns.
Another fun trick is to pull a sandwich switcheroo! This one is easy. I just made two different types of sandwiches, cut both sandwiches in half diagonally, then placed one of each type of sandwich in their lunch containers. My daughter is slightly grossed out by the half peanut butter and jelly + half turkey sandwich.
The switched sandwich has evolved over time. Adding google eyes was a fun surprise.
Even my son’s croissant sandwich has a silly disposition with the addition of google eyes.
Now I will admit that mixing up deserts is a bit of a dirty trick. Tee hee hee! I just could not resist switching their cookies in this little mixed up prank. Similar to the switched chips trick, I carefully opened the mini oreo bag and replaced the mini oreos, with full sized vanilla oreos. I didn’t waste the mini oreos, I put them in a ziploc bag and tucked them out of the kids’ sight. Oh who am I kidding… I ate them myself! They were delicious! Ha!
As the kids are growing older, they think that they can predict all of my tricks. This year, thanks to Pinterest, I have a few new tricks up my sleeve that will give them a nice surprise. What are some of your favorite family friendly April Fools’ Day pranks?
