Hi all! Polly Jewelle here with another edition of Behind the Design. With a little bit of pleading and maybe a few bribes we got the designers here at the LilyPad to agree to show off their design spaces at home. They also agreed to answer a few questions about their design space that will allow us to get to know them better. This month we are going behind the designs of
Michelle Godin
Mac or PC?
Mac all the way!
Coffee or tea (or both/neither)?
Neither! Just boring water.
Guilty pleasure snack while creating/scrapping?
Well now you’re gonna think I’m really boring. I don’t really ever snack. But I often eat dinner in front of the computer while working. Does that count?

Favorite music to listen to?
I’m all over the music map. Sometimes I’m dancing around to Lady Gaga, and sometimes I’m chilling out to The Lumineers. My current playlist includes Lorde, Capital Cities, Ellie Goulding, Avicii, Alex Clare and AWOLNation . . .so I guess you could say I’m going through an electronic/dancey phase.

Your view from your scrap space?
I have a window that looks out to my tiny backyard.
What software do you use to create with?
I’m still on Photoshop CS3.

Favorite photo editing tools?
I love RadLab! But I also love to just play with the blending modes and adjustment layers in Photoshop. A lot of my favourite photo treatments are just happy accidents from fooling around with settings I don’t really understand!
Favorite time to create (morning or evening)?
I’m a morning person. I’m more alert, productive and creative before 9 am than most people are all day! But here’s the rub. I have a full-time day job. That only leaves me evenings to create, which I struggle with because I’m not very productive when I’m exhausted! A quiet Sunday morning is my ultimate creative bliss.
Favorite thing about your workspace?
I’m lucky to have one of the spare bedrooms as my craft room, which means I have a giant clothes closet that I can use for supply storage. In other words, I love that I have plenty of room to hoard :)

Least favorite thing about your workspace?
The lighting!!! The light fixture in this room is terrible and I can’t see anything at night! Hoping we can fix that this year.

What would your dream workspace look like and where would it be?
My dream space would be MUCH bigger and have an entire wall of windows for natural light. Or maybe an attic with a skylight! I would have a giant counter island in the middle of the room for working and be surrounded by shelves and shelves of perfectly organized supplies. The decor would be bright and happy. The walls would be splattered with paint and filled with inspiring artwork from my favourite artists. Ahh. .. a girl can dream!
I was anxious to see what kind of a studio that Michelle had. Would it be all artsy like her digital designs or something completely different? I bet you are wondering too! How about we take a peek into her studio?
Michelle provided us with this photo of her whole room. I love how much workspace Michelle has created in a smaller space. I’m particularly impressed how she seems to have a “station” for each of her crafts. Sewing, painting, digital designing, etc.
Here are few close ups of her creative spaces. I love how everything seems to have a designated spot. Look! Michelle has even made a fun hanging caddy for her washi tape, pens, scissors, and sprays! I’m sure having those things lifted off the table that gives her more room to work on her projects.
I hope you have enjoyed this little peek in Michelle’s workspace! What was your favorite part of Michelle’s design space? Let us know in the comments!
Stay tuned next month for a peek into another designer’s space!
