Hi everyone! Sarah, here with another installment of Simply Hybrid. This month I've created a greeting card, starting simple and then each step adding one or two elements to showcase a variety of different looks based on the same original card.I chose Shine by Laurie Ann to use for this card. My starting point is almost always something that stands out to me in the preview and in this case it was the label that reads "Lovely is what you are." in the elment pack and the woodgrain paper with the paint spatter in the paper pack. Shine ElementsShine PaperWhen I need a fast, simple card, I'm always amazed at the impact placing a patterned paper and a couple of elements on a card front and printing it off as a single piece piece. For this card I set up a canvas of 5.5" high and 8.5" wide, this is the same as half a sheet of letter paper which folded in half … [Read more...]

Hi everyone! Aaron again with another installment of my series on getting ready to capture your Disney vacation. To recap, it's only a few weeks until my next Disney vacation, and for the last few months I've been taking you along as I get ready to scrap my vacation. This time, I want to talk about pulling together all of your supplies.Gather Your SuppliesThis is always my most favorite step when I am getting ready to memory keep a Disney vacation. “Unsung Hero” Products
Greetings, Happy Scrappers!Polly Liana here today to introduce you to a whole bunch of products that are going to blow your mind. But first, a story:A few weeks ago, I visited a very busy cafe/bakery with my two small daughters. We stood in line for a few minutes and placed our order. They said they'd call me over to come pick it up at the counter when it was ready. I found a table in the back of the cafe and seated my girls in a chair and high chair. Eventually, someone motioned to me that our food was ready. I left my daughters for a moment to get the food. As I approached the counter, an older gentleman stepped in front of me and picked up our plates, including my daughter's glass of milk. Confused, I said, "Excuse me… I think that might be our…" He cut me off and said, "I know it's yours. I was going to bring it to your table for you so you wouldn't have to leave your … [Read more...]

We Are Storytellers.
Why do we scrap? Well, for many reasons of course. For me, it is a creative outlet. And my digital scrapping allows for this creativity without taking up too much space (which I don't have). I love the colors and the fun elements and the papers and the techniques and the process. It is also a way to show off photos. I am always trying to improve my photography as well as my post processing, and scrapping gives me a canvas on which to display my work. This will allow future generations to see our little sliver of humanity though my eyes, giving them a glimpse of who we are.It can be therapeutic as well, allowing emotions to roll out through journaling or art journaling. Kind of like a "Dear Diary" in visual form. This has helped many through difficult times and cannot be discounted. But honestly, above everything else, scrapping is a way to tell our stories. I would … [Read more...]
Pocket Scrapping Meets Art Journaling: Creating Pocket Cards from a Digital Kit
Hi all, Sarah here. As I've mentioned before, I love all of the premade cards that are out there and ready for journaling and possibly embellishments to be added, but I also love creating my own cards from all the wonderful digital kits available to us. We recently found out that we are going to have to move so I wanted to record this information in my Snap album. These two pages are kind of companion pages. The first one includes my to do list and I talk about how many times we have moved. The second page has no extra journaling, just the word art included in the kit, but it still serves to remind me to calm down and take it slow.I begin by cropping the papers included in the kit to the size of my pockets and then I add extra layers just as I would embellish a typical journaling card. I love using full kits to help me tell my story in this manner. For my first … [Read more...]
Tutorial: Using Over Sized Pics on Your Pocket Pages
When I started pocket scrapping, I thought I would love using only 3x4 or 4x6 photos. It was so easy! Over time, however, I found that I was losing out on some pictures that needed to be shown in a larger space. I wanted to find a way to showcase them in my pocket pages. I knew that traditional pocket scrappers could cut the larger photo apart and put it in the pockets, so I set out to figure out how to do this on a digital template. This is, step by step, how I go about it.First, I open the template and the photo I want to use.Next, I am going to clip the photo to spaces where I want it. I start by selecting one of the layers, and drag my photo on top of that layer. I re-size the photo as necessary. Now, I am going to duplicate the photo so that I can clip it to each of the layers I want it to occupy. For this layout, I want the photo in the top right spot, and the … [Read more...]
Tutorial: Shadowing Doilies
By now you have noticed and possibly shopped the Doily Trend Watch. You might have played along with the Trend Watch Challenge. Continuing the doily theme check out the latest episode of The Hybrid Variety Show where a slew of doilies are on display. Today, you guessed it, more doily talk! I am going to share with you some tips on shadowing doilies. I took photos of both lace and paper doilies as a point of reference for creating shadows. This visual reference will help aid in creating realistic shadows. In looking at the photos you can see that the doilies do not lay perfectly flat. The shadow beneath the doilies varies in darkness and in depth. Let's talk about the different types of doilies that are available as digital products. There are all sorts of doilies available for purchase. The sample image below includes the most common doilies. Now that you have seen the different … [Read more...]

Hi all! Polly Jewelle here with another edition of Behind the Design. With a little bit of pleading and maybe a few bribes the designers here at The LilyPad to agreed to show off their design spaces at home. They also agreed to answer a few questions about their design space that will allow us to get to know them better. This month we are going behind the designs ofLynne-Marie Digital DesignsMac or PC?Mac all the way!! I have a very old one though. My husband is the tech guy and I just scream when something doesn't work. I'll be updating my computer soon... hopefully!Coffee or tea (or both/neither)?Ok, so I've been addicted to coffee since University, but I recently quit... so right now it's … [Read more...]
