Hybrid Pocket LettersIn the world of pocket scrapping there is a new trend - pocket letters. Pocket letters are a wonderful mix of pocket scrapbooking and artist trading cards. The idea is to send a pocket page filled with all sorts of little trinkets to a friend or swap partner. It's a fun way to send happy mail. Pocket letters can be adapted across many genres including pocket scrapbooking, planning, art, mixed media, and even pen pals. The possibilities are endless. The letters can be random or themed and the pockets can contain anything from cards to embellishments and ephemera. Here are a few of the hybrid pocket letters that I have created for a recent swap. I put my own hybrid twist on pocket letters by printing journal cards from the new Just Jaimee and Mommyish Real Life in Pockets Collection - Besties. I simply resized the journal cards, in a photo editing software, to … [Read more...]

Fresh Hollandaise Made From Scratch
I have always been somewhat of a Hollandaise snob. My aunt runs a restaurant in my hometown of Honolulu and she makes incredible eggs benedict with fresh Hollandaise. It's not the easiest thing to prepare but when it's done right, it's totally worth the effort. I refrigerate the rest and scoop it onto all kinds of things for the days following.Ingredients (doubled, yields 2 cups) It's much easier if you prepare all ingredients ahead of time.4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice8 tablespoons boiling water (just keep a kettle on)6 large egg yolks1 cup unsalted butter1/2 teaspoon cayenne (makes it a bit spicy, less if you want not so spicy)1 teaspoon saltDirections:1. Melt the butter in a measuring cup and keep it warm2. Heat the lemon juice until just warmed3. Warm the water in the double boiler but don't let it boil.4. Put the egg yolks in the top of the double … [Read more...]

International Tabletop Day
Hi all, Sarah here. If you follow me you'll know that I'm an avid board gamer. A couple of months ago my brother and I started a tabletop gaming club in the town that I grew up in and one of our first orders of business was to set up an event for International Tabletop Day (luckily the local library already had an event planned and happily agreed to let us cohost it). A few years ago Wil Wheaton (of Stand by Me and Star Trek: The Next Generation fame) began a YouTube series, TableTop which is all about playing board games. Over the past 20 years or so (with the introduction of games such as Settler's of Catan to the United States) there has been an influx of great games and this series does such a great job highlighting these games. With Tabletop, in about 30 minutes or so, you can learn about a new game, see how it's played and watch a group of people actually play through the game. … [Read more...]
Gallery Highlights
I just love when I get the chance to show off some of the awesome pages that can be found in The Lilypad Gallery. Honestly, it's a hotbed of inspiration in there. All the time.Without further ado, let's get started...First up is this STUNNING Autumn page by teeleedee. It shows you can scrap anything, anytime. I love how she framed that adorable photo and really made it the focus of this page. And these colors are absolutely divine. I really also like the extra touches, like the filmstrip stamp, the shadows on the lens and the bit of journaling. Gorgeous page. I could not love this page by MrsPeel any more. It is striking and powerful and takes art journaling to a whole new level. Her use of word art strips in combination with the worn appearing Bible text makes a beautiful contrast that draws you right to the point of this page (no pun intended). … [Read more...]
Hybrid Planning
Planners are a hot trend right now and hybrid planning takes customizing a planner to a whole new level. The planner trend has really taken off over the past year and for crafty types like myself this has opened a whole new area for creativity. Creating planner pages that fit my current needs as well as a few creative touches keep me motivated to stay organized.Last year, as part of the Documented Life Project, I created my own calendar pages each week. I admit that I felt overwhelmed by always working on the calendar for the current week. This year, I have opted to use a mix of calendar pages and adapt the content to my current needs as I go. This loose option works best for me so that I do not feel stressed about keeping things current. I generally create and print a month of pages in advance, and then embellish the pages as I have time. Some weeks I keep it simple by … [Read more...]
