Hi guys! It’s Monica here to talk about setting scrapbook goals for the new year.
One of the things I love the most about the new year is the opportunity to set new goals in every area of my life, including scrapbooking. Now, there’s nothing especially magical about January for setting goals. You can set goals at any time, but there is something extra motivating about the new year that puts everyone in a goal-setting frame of mind.
Today, I want to talk specifically about five tips that will help you with setting your own scrapbooking goals.
Evaluate Last Year’s Accomplishments
Take a look at what you did over the last year in regards to scrapbooking. How many layouts did you complete? Did you try something new? Did you learn a new program? Did you complete MOC last year…what about the monthly challenges?
Before making new goals for this year, it’s a great idea to really take a good look and see exactly what you did over the last year. Write it all down and feel good about what you did! Then you can begin setting new goals.
Decide on 3-5 Goals to Focus on This Year
Now that you’ve evaluated what you did, make 3-5 goals to work on over the next year. Three to five is a very realistic number that can be accomplished in a year. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself by making too many goals that are not attainable. Be specific in stating your goals and exactly what you want to accomplish.
Do you want to learn something new? Do you want to complete the Month of Challenges? Do you want to create more layouts than you did last year? Do you have projects that you want to begin or complete? Brainstorm it all and decide on three to five specific goals that you can focus your scrapbooking attention on.
Write them Down and Make them Visible
After you’ve decided on your specific goals, it’s important to write them down and make them visible. You may even want to create a scrapbook layout using them!
Make your goals visible so that you will be constantly reminded of them. I have my goals written down in a notebook and will also create a layout to hang close to my desk.
Tell Someone who will Keep You Accountable
Accountability is such an important key to accomplishing our goals! Tell someone who will keep you accountable in this area. You can comment on this post, tell the community in the forums here, tell a friend or even your spouse. Make sure you relay to this person how important it is to you that you achieve your goals and ask them to hold you accountable to them.
I told my husband that I really wanted to complete the Month of Challenges this year (last year was the first year that I didn’t complete all of the challenges) and he is holding me to it!
Track Your Goals and Celebrate Your Progress
Write down your progress towards meeting your goals. There are lots of trackers out there that you can use! I even created a printable habit tracker and shared it on the blog last year. There’s also a MOC challenge tracker on the blog. You can still download these and use them! Or you can simply create a page in your bullet journal or planner for tracking your goals.
And when you meet your goals, (and I know you will!) remember to celebrate!!! Reward your self for a job well done and celebrate because you are a SCRAPPING ROCK STAR!
My own personal scrapbook goals for this year are:
- Complete all 31 challenges in MOC6
- Keep up do date on creating weekly Project Life layouts
- Create at least one art journal layout a month
- Create a mini-album for my Word of the Year
- Create at least one layout a week
If you’ve created scrapbook goals for this year, I would love to hear them in the comments!
