Like many of us mama’s who are scrapping our family’s memories, I’m always looking for better ways to photograph my family, especially my kiddos. But if you’re like me, some of the more technical photography books are kind of tough to get through and they take more time and attention than I have to dedicate to photography at this point in my life. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to read several books on photographing children and wanted to share with you.
Mamarazzi: Every mom’s Guide to Photographing Children is a fun book full of great tips for capturing not just snapshots, but also portraits. I thought that it has a great combination of creative ideas along with good instructions on how to use your camera to its full potential. It’s visually very pleasing with beautiful bright photos; each photo also includes camera settings.
Beyond Snapshots How to Take That Fancy DSLR Camera Off “Auto” and Photograph Your Life like a Pro is a new book receiving rave reviews and I’ve got it at the top of my wishlist. It was highly recommended to me by a friend, and, Rachel Devine, the author, takes beautiful pictures. I can’t wait to read it.
Expressive Photography: The Shutter Sister’s Guide to Shooting from the Heart is another book on my wish list. I’ve been a long-time fan of The Shutter Sister’s blog. Their passion is shooting photos that express emotion and tell a story, and I know that’s something I’m always striving for.
And, finally, Photographing Children, by Ginny Finch. I borrowed this book from the library recently and thought it had so many timeless instructional tips. Definitely worth the time to read and learn something new.
