Valentines Created from Journal Cards

Hi all, Sarah here. Greeting cards are one of my favorite hybrid projects to create. I thought I’d share with you today a few Valentines that I created using a pack journal cards. The only tools I needed were my computer, printer, and a paper trimmer (though I do know that some people are able to cut straight lines perfectly with scissors, I am not one of them). The only supplies I needed were paper (I use Neenah Bright White cardstock for most projects) and adhesive.

I decided on Candy Hearts: Filler Cards by Quirky Heart. I love the variety of cards Michelle has included and I knew I’d be able to get quite a few Valentines out of this one pack.

For this first set of Valentines I printed the cards on cardstock and trimmed to size. These will be fun to scribble a little note on the back of to tuck into a pocket or lunchbox.

This next set of cards I created by placing the journal card on the right side of a 4×6 canvas and then printing on cardstock. Cut out a 4×6 rectangle making sure to keep the card on the right side. Simply fold in half and you have a cute little gift card that would be a perfect touch on a flower bouquet or box of chocolates.

Last is an A2 size greeting card (or 4.25″x5.5″ here in the states). I created the card base the same way I did with the previous cards but instead of a 4×6 canvas I used a 5.5×8.5 canvas printed landscape. Since I had to increase the size of the journal card to fit onto the front of the card base I chose one of the watercolor cards because I might lose some image quality on a crisper image. I found that the card I chose printed just fine at the larger size. I then printed two more cards. One at the normal 3×4 size and the second slightly larger to act as a mat. I trimmed the card base and folded in half and then trimmed and layered the other two cards on the base. This is a perfect sized card for mailing to a loved one or writing a heartfelt note in to give to your significant other.

I love how fun it was to create the Valentine’s from journal cards. Of course you aren’t limited to just Valentine’s Day to create cards like this. If you decide to create your own cards using journal cards make sure to upload them to the Hybrid Projects gallery. I’d love to see them.
