Hi all, Sarah here and I want to talk about something that I do quite regularly for my pocket scrapping projects. I love using a kit or coordinating products to complete a pocket scrapping layout but sometimes when you’re looking at documenting such a wide variety of memories on a single page it’s hard to find a kit that speaks to everthing on that page. One way that I get around this is by using cut files from the Silhouette store and filling them with papers and/or paint from whatever kit or collection I’m using to ensure that everything matches.
For this first page I wanted to document the large amount of blue jays that my daughter and I saw in our yard that day, but I didn’t think to take a photo as we were admiring the birds. I love Amy Wolff’s kit Urban Fusion for the majority of this page. The red and blue colors worked well with my memories, I love the fun word art and all of the neutral paper choices work well for documenting bits of our lives in pockets. I could have just documented this without the use of any imagery but I really wanted some sort of blue jay graphic on my page. My solution was to download a blue jay paper piecing cut file, fill it with the wonderful solid papers from Amy’s kit and place it on my card along with my journaling. I love how having the paper piecing reinforces in my mind what the card is about. All of these pages are linked to the original gallery posting for full credits.
For the next page I did a similar thing. I used multiple products from the June 2014 BYOC collection because I loved the spring colors for a mostly spring page. Of course a turkey is not normally what you would find in a fun spring collection so I found this turkey cut file, filled it with one of the papers from the collection and cut it out. I did a similar thing with the pi shape but instead of using a cut file I used a font to create the shape.
This last page highlights Mother’s Day 2013. Peppermint’s kit Hopscotch was fantastic for this fun day out. The fun spring colors and word art helped me make the decision to use this kit, but again I wanted to reinforce some of the ideas I documented on my cards. For the horse cut out, this time I used a fun polka dotted paper instead of a solid. And I just love how the roller coaster cut file adds to my pocket about going to Six Flags.
This is such a fun way to add more theme to your pocket scrapping pages when you want to make sure that everything works well together color and style wise. This is another favorite way of mine to use even more of the fun digital papers on my pages and I love that it allows you to add so much variety while still using coordinating product. I hope this post has helped you think beyond the obvious themes in a kit when planning out your pocket scrapping pages.
