What do fashion, home decor and scrapbooking have in common? They’re all influenced by trends and, in fact, often the same trends in both design and color. For example, we’re seeing a huge surge in popularity of the chevron pattern, whether it’s on a cute dress, a fun throw pillow or a cool scrapbooking paper. While it’s very useful to know your personal style as a scrapper, it can also be very enjoyable to put your own twist on the trends. By making them your own, you can keep true to your style while having fun with the latest looks. Let’s talk about the hottest trends right now…
The 2012 Pantone color of the year is Tango Tangerine. Consequently, this lively and vibrant color is enjoying huge popularity in the design world. We’ve seen quite a bit of in shop at TLP this year. If you want to be bold, use an orange paper and your background and embellish your pages with various shades of orange. If you want to try tangering in a smaller dose, a handful of brightly colored elements will still make your layout pop. Here are some fun takes on the Tangerine trend from TLP
You can see how amazing the Tango Tangerine looks in use, despite the terrible sunburn…
Another fun trend that we’re seeing in all design fields is ombré, which is a graduation in color or tone. I bet you’ve seen that in the ruffled pillows and curtains photos that are floating around Pinterest. I have to admit, though, this trend looks particularly yummy on cakes.
It might not taste as good as the cake, but TLP’s designers have their own delicious ombre inspired goodies.
It makes for striking layouts too!
Strong graphic prints are back with a vengeance, especially in bold colors! This is a trend that might frighten the more neutral scrapper, but you can definitely use prints in small doses to amp up the fun factor in your layouts.
Don’t be afraid of patterns- they make stunning foundations for layouts!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this bit of trend talk. Remember that you can find inspiration for your layouts in so many places, so the next time you are walking through your local Target or flipping through a favorite home decor magazine, let the things you admire find their way on to your pages. Put your own twist on the trends and you will come away with layouts you love.
