Happy St. Patrick’s day! Holidays are a great time to introduce an enrichment activity to a child. They think they are playing a game and you are getting them to learn or review a skill. I’ve still got a few little kids that don’t go to school yet. My little kids who don’t go to school yet want to do some “schoolwork” just like their siblings do. I don’t want to disappoint them, so I do some preschool learning activities with them. Sometimes though, I go overboard with those activities and spend way too much time on them. Today I want to show a quick worksheet I put together for my preschooler that took little time but she found engaging.
- I chose to work with Luck of the Irish by Kate Hadfield. I knew that Kate’s doodles in her St. Patrick’s kit would capture my preschoolers attention.
- In Photoshop I created the layout for my worksheet as seen below. Total time to create was approximately 10 mins!
- At this point I got the itch to “go overboard.” I thought of using Kate’s shamrock doodle to make an elaborate border around the worksheet. I also thought about taking the Kate’ coin doodles and cutting a bunch out to use as manipulates for this activity. I quickly reminded myself to keep this activity simple and moved on. (TIP: Those two suggestions would really take this activity to the next level if you had time for it!)
- Next I printed the worksheet out on cardstock.
- I just couldn’t leave the worksheet plane, so I adhered a green piece of cardstock behind the worksheet for “stability purposes.”
- I dug in my preschoolers closet and found some plastic coins to serve as gold.
My total time creating this worksheet was 20 mins! My preschooler has already played with several times and keeps asking to do her money schoolwork. This activity can be adapted to fit different age levels by altering what you put on the pot of gold. Or if you don’t have time to whip this up today, you could easily adapt this to another holiday or season. TIP: If you would like this worksheet to last through more than one child be sure and laminate it!
Making school enrichment activities is one of my favorite ways to stretch the use of my LilyPad digi supplies. Have you made any enrichment activities for your kids? I hope this has encouraged you to get out there and give it a try. Be sure and share any enrichment activities you create in TLP gallery!
