Summer break has begun at our house. With that comes lazy mornings sleeping in, swim lessons, slushy runs, playing at the playground, building forts, and other summer adventures. Along with all the fun I also make sure my kids do a few educational things throughout the summer. For my school age kids I gather a few worksheets from their textbooks they brought home from school. My little kids who aren’t in school yet want to do some “homework” just like their siblings too. I don’t want to disappoint them, so I create educational games for them to play while their siblings are doing homework. Today I’m going to share with you one of these games I created.
My preschool kids are working on mastering their alphabet. With this in mind I created a game that would appeal to them, but also work on their letter recognition skills. I call it “Mermaid Bingo.” Using MERMAID LIFE Papers and MERMAID LIFE Pretties by ForeverJoy Designs I created the Bingo cards centered around a Mermaid theme. Foam Alphas No.5 by Heather Hess worked great for the letters on the Bingo cards.
I also created alphabet tiles to call out the letters for Bingo.
I plan on letting the kids use marshmallows to place over their letters. This gives them just a little extra incentive to play, if they need it! If you don’t want your kids to have the marshmallows you could always use something like lima beans to mark the spaces. I also would highly recommend that you laminate the letter tiles and the Bingo cards for durability purposes. I have not done this yet because lamination is hard to photograph, but I plan and doing it right away!
Making school enrichment activities is one of my favorite ways to stretch the use of my LilyPad digi supplies. Have you made any enrichment activities for your kids? I hope this has encouraged you to get out there and give it a try. Be sure and share any enrichment activities you create in TLP gallery!
