Hello all my artsy friends! I am bringing you a quick tutorial today for loading those fabulous Styles into Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. I love how styles can so easily add amazing effects to your page. Many of you probably use shadowing styles, but there are plenty of other layer styles available in the Lilypad Store. In addition to the stand alone styles that can be personalized to work with any color scheme, did you know that kit-coordinated styles are available for the Create Crate Monthly and BYOC Collections?
I used the Create Crate Monthly October Styles by Mommyish on this page to make a coordinating frame for the large center photo (click on layout for full credits):
It is quick and easy to load styles into either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Just follow these steps:
1. Make sure that your Styles window is active by clicking on the Window drop down menu at the top of the work space and clicking on Styles. If there is already a check mark next to Styles, your window should be visible.
2. Now go to the Styles panel and click on the button that looks like three horizontal lines in the top right corner. A pop up menu should appear. Choose “Load Styles” from that menu.
3. Once you click on “Load Styles” a window will pop up that will let you navigate to the file where the styles are located. Make sure you know where that file is located before you click on Load Styles. I keep my kit coordinated Styles with the kit(s) that they were made to go with, but I keep general styles (such as drop shadows) in a folder called Styles. That way it is easy for me to find them all in one place.
Once you find the file where the Styles are located, click on the Style that you want to load, and then click on the Load button in the bottom right corner. Once you compete this step, the Styles will be loaded in the style window in Photoshop or PSE and ready to go.
4. That is all there is to adding Styles to both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements (version PSE 11 and newer). If you work in Photoshop CC, you can bypass all of these steps and load styles by double-clicking on the ASL file (as pictured in Step 3, above). How cool is that?!
For those of you who are new to Styles, I hope this tutorial helps. Be sure to share all of your Styled creations with us in The Lilypad Gallery!
Until next time ~
Judie
This is one the main reasons that I chose to start using PS CC. I love how easy it is to load styles and actions.
