Hello friends!! It’s Monica here and I’m so excited to share with you a hybrid “thank you” card that I recently made. I actually made two cards using the same technique, because if you’re going to make one, you might as well make two!
Last week my neighbor came over to bring a “welcome to the neighborhood” gift. It was the sweetest gift of fresh flowers, pumpkin pancake mix and vanilla maple syrup, all from Trader Joe’s. I wanted to make a thank you card for her and was inspired by this card shared by Jennifer McGuire on Instagram.
I love that this card could easily transfer to be made hybrid style since it used all straight edges. I also love the bold patterned paper that was used!
Here is the process I used to create these cards:
The first thing I did was cut out two card bases (5.5×4.25) using white cardstock paper.
I then used a scoring mat and bone folder to create a fold on this card base.
Then it was onto Photoshop to create the card elements.
First I created a new document sized 5.5 x 4.25 inches. On this, I created a rectangular shape and clipped a patterned paper from the Fall Fantastic kit by Allison Pennington.
Next, I created another rectangular shape for the inside box where the sentiment would go. I filled this shape with a solid color from the patterned paper.
I then used alphas from the same kit to spell out “thanks” and once I aligned them I resized them to fit inside the shape.
I also typed in the sentiment using the text tool and placed in below the alphas inside the filled shape. I also added a shadow style to the alphs so they will “pop” off of the card.
I merged the layers for the patterned paper and the layers for the rectangular box containing the card sentiment. Now the card has three layers, the background layer, the patterned paper layer and the sentiment layer. I repeated this process for a second card using a different patterned paper.
I combined all of these layers onto a new letter-sized document, making sure to align the side edges of the patterned papers and the top edges of the sentiment boxes. I sent this document to print on cardstock paper.
Because all the elements of this card are straight edges, I chose to cut them out with a paper trimmer rather than using a cutting machine. This means that this is a really easy hybrid card for anyone to create…no machines necessary!!
Lastly, I adhered all the layers of the card to the base using adhesive.
I absolutely love the outcome of these hybrid cards and I cannot wait to walk across the street and deliver one to my sweet neighbor!!
