Hello and Happy (soon to be) Halloween!
I love to craft and make fun decorations for my house. This is a simple and inexpensive activity that allows me to easily change things up each year.
I found some great deals on wooden pumpkins, chalkboard graves, and tote bags, and just knew I had to create a few things. I found some awesome digital elements from our designer’s Halloween collections here at The Lilypad and in no time I made a few fun items for the season’s festivities and enjoyed a few hours of craft therapy!
I used a variety of elements from the following kits for my projects:
Kristin Aagard: October Silhouettes
Designed by Soco: Happy Haunting
Paislee Press: Fall Magic No. 2 Stamps, Fall Magic
Allison Pennington: Happy Haunting
Sahin Designs: Fright Alpha
For the decor, I used wooden pumpkins that I painted white and chalkboard graves that I bought last year. I added the digital elements to my cutting machine’s files (I used a Cricut Maker) and cut them out on removable vinyl. I decided to use removable vinyl instead of permanent so that I can easily reuse the pumpkins for Thanksgiving – just remove the vinyl, save it on parchment paper for next year, and I can then embellish the pumpkins with Thanksgiving themed decor!
There are so many types of vinyl that you can choose from that can really make your project extra special. I loved using the glitter vinyl for the lettering and a holographic vinyl for the spider web – it really catches your eye!
I added a small bit of ribbon for some Halloween color and it’s ready for display.
These are chalkboard graves and I used a frosted vinyl for the shapes. I was hoping to have an transparent effect and think I succeeded. If I revamp these at some point I will use glow in the dark vinyl (it was all sold out at the stores near me). I think that would make them extra Halloween fun!
For the tote bag, I used my Cricut Maker and cut out the digital elements on heat transfer vinyl (iron-on). This vinyl can be adhered to the fabric with a hot iron and fuses wonderfully to the fabric. It is a fun and quick project, and makes for a great seasonal tote bag or trick-or-treating!
I love extending my digital scrapbooking supplies with crafty hybrid projects and get extra inspired to create during the fall and winter seasons.
While having a cutting machine makes these projects easier for me to make, you could just as easily print out the elements on paper and trace them onto the vinyl which you then cut by hand. There are so many fun ways to use digital scrapbooking supplies in the crafting world! What are you creating? I’d love to hear about your projects!
