January 20: Storytelling

This has been my favorite challenge (so far?)...not for myself, but for all the wonderful stories I've read. It has been a privilege to learn more about so many friends at the Pad, and it has inspired me, because of reminders, to write more of MY stories. I've had tears well up more than a few times as I've read poignant stories, and laughed out loud over some funny ones. This has been wonderful. Just sayin'!

Such a cool challenge, it was fun telling the story of BB. Thanks hun and from memory my word count was about 160 :)

Journaling- 154 words!
My grandma “Nanny” was a great artist. She loved to paint flowers & birds & wildlife. I loved many of her paintings, but my favorite was the one she painted just for me! She named it “A Mouse” since that was my nickname for as long as I can remember! It started as Amos, but then transformed, as all good nicknames do! She also painted my favorite flowers- daffodils! I love that she added a cute little mouse in with the daffodils! I also love that she signed & dated the back. This means nothing to the 'art world', but EVERYTHING to me. She had the most beautiful handwriting. This painting was one of the first things I put up on the wall in our new house! In 2013, my Nanny passed away. I miss her terribly & seeing this painting everyday makes me smile & remember her & how much she loved me!

So, I am a little bit fascinated with old barns and dilapidated buildings out in the middle of farmland. I can only imagine the stories they would tell. On the way home from one of our camping trips last summer, I managed to snap this shot through the window as we drive by. And it was the inspiration behind the framework of this challenge :) 335 words

Couldn't figure out what I was going to feature for this challenge, but after scrolling through my camera roll, I knew instantly the story I needed to tell :)

Here's my layout!!!

This little mug makes me happy! I spied it in the hospital gift shop at Dignity in Phoenix. Some hospital gift shops have the most unique little things, sometimes at a very good price. This was a little high, but they gave me the employee sale price – nice! I realize it’s a Volkswagen, but that doesn’t really matter. It’s a glamper in my world, and that is what we do, so I had to have it. Especially with the perfect messages inside and on the back.
I was sad to notice after using it just twice some cracks inside. Who knows how long it will last, but I’ll enjoy it while I can, and have photos of it to remember. That’s a pretty true life lesson, too. Nothing lasts forever, but we can hold on to the memories. Enjoy what – and who – we have, as long as we can, and then look back with a smile later. Not always easy. I know I’ll be sad when it breaks. But I’m happier for having had it for the time I did. My little happy place mug.

Phew, managed to come up with 154 words for this journaling challenge! Initially, I wanted to journal about my daughter's teddy bear, Pookie, but I couldn't find the old photos of her packing him around everywhere. Instead I've taken a photo of keepsakes from my mom's sewing kit. I'll leave Pookie for another challenge ...
