Have you ever wondered what to do with those unique template elements? Not the place holders for common elements such as flowers, leaves and flairs – but the special elements that you find in some digital scrapbooking kits. For example, holiday light strands, curved arrows and larger background shapes. You can always clip digital papers to those template placeholders, or search for the perfect digital element to fill in their space, but I would like to share with you my favorite way to embellish those template elements – with digital styles!
Take a look at the arrow element at the top of the photo on this layout (click on layout for full credits):
Here is what it looked like on the template:
All I did was apply the “Clean Wire” style from Mommyish’s DYD 2019 Style Bundle and it created the perfect curved arrow element for the page.
Now take a look at the background diamond shapes on this page (click on page for full credits):
Here is how the arrow and background pieces appeared on the template:
The diamonds were part of the template (included in Fiddle-Dee-Dee’s Thankful for Now templates). Instead of clipping papers to them, I added a glitter style from the November 2019 BYOC Style set by Mommyish Designs to give them a more dimensional appearance. I also used the Kraft Edged Sticker style on the curved arrow pointing to the Life, Love, Soul card.
Finally, take a look at the holiday light strands at the top and bottom of this page (click on page for full credits):
Here is what they looked like on Fiddle-Dee-Dee’s Light ’em Up template:
Instead of clipping papers to the elements (which are conveniently separated into different layers for all the light colors, the string and the parts that attach the bulbs to the string), I applied styles from Mommyish’s DYD 2019 Style Bundle. I used the Clean – Thicker Styles for the string and the bulb attachments, and the Glittery – Crinkled Foil styles (in different colors) for the bulbs.
Digital styles really are a scrapper’s best friend!
Finding styles in the Lilypad Store is super-easy too! All you need to do is go to the “Photoshop Tools” tab on the far left side of the storefront and choose “Styles” from the drop down menu. This will bring up all the styles and kits with styles included in the Store.
I hope you have fun exploring the many ways that digital styles can be used with template elements. As always, we love it when you share your pages with us in the Lilypad Gallery!
Until next time ~

Great blog Judie. I’m going to redo my layout with the Christmas lights and add a style. Thanks for the ideas.
