Hello there, Polly Stefanie here to encourage you to document how your senses can ground you and spark joy.
The 5 primary senses of:
- See (Eyes/Sight)
- Smell (Nose/Odor)
- Hear (Ears/Sound)
- Taste (Mouth/Flavour)
- Touch (Skin/Feel).
We all have favourite smells, that spark happy memories. For me the smell of melting butter always reminds me of childhood growing up in Germany. Cigarette smoke reminds me of my Mom. Favourite fragrances, for me its frangipani.
As a child I had some tactile defensive issues, there would be feels I liked and other feels I avoided. So I would wear cotton and linen, but avoid nylon and chiffon type feels. We all need to get a hug or cuddle a pet. What kinds of touch do you savour? My daughter enjoys a good hard hug, but a more gentle one with a side to side action is less pleasant for her. Have you ever thought of documenting and capturing these things?
Favourite sights, like a bird swooping through the sky a wave crashing and spraying up water as it lands. Whatever makes you happy, consider creating a layout about which sense sparks joy for you, how you perceive the world through your senses. Everyday joys like a fresh cup of tea or coffee, flowers, friends.
Favourite sounds, for me it’s a fire crackling, a fan creating white noise to sleep by, and rain falling against the windows. What sounds do you love?
