Journaling….that one word can ignite so much emotion! Some people absolutely love to put words to the paper and share a story or thoughts and others struggle with writing even one word and thus despise journaling. I happen to fall into the first category – I love journaling and cannot create a scrapbook layout without including written words. Sometimes the words are basic, essentially the 5 w’s of storytelling (who, what, when, where, why) and sometimes it is much more detailed and descriptive. No matter which route I use for a layout, the words matter to me. But that isn’t to say that they come easily – they often don’t!
When expressing what I want to share I can hit roadblocks and there is definitely a struggle sometimes with finding the story I want to tell…so that is when I turn to prompts. Journaling prompts are suggestions that help me focus on a topic and are used to springboard the storytelling. There are so many places to find prompts – books, looking around your home, memories from the past, a conversation, the internet – but also here at The Lilypad!
This month we have a list of prompts that you can use to help you tell your stories and add journaling to your layouts. We are focusing on our senses – what we can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste. Do any of these prompts below spark something in you? Can you find a way to elaborate on them? There is no right or wrong way to interpret the prompts and your interpretation of them is what makes your journaling and storytelling meaningful to you.
Let me know if you were inspired by any of these prompts and how you used them to add storytelling and journaling to your layouts – I’d love to see what you create!
