I love being out and about. When the weather permits I like to be in the garden. Going to the beach or the woods is also a favorite of mine. And I often take my camera with me because I really like to record the changing of the seasons. Looking through my photos there are some pictures, certain moments that keep coming back. Year, after year.
Recording and photographing the seasonal changes is a habit for me. It comes quite naturally as my mother always used to write about the weather in our family calendar. She would write down weather events like when the first thunderstorm of the year was, the temperature on the first warm day of spring or make notes of the amount of rain we had on certain days. Her notes have inspired me to record the seasons changing with my camera.
In our part of the world we have just welcomed spring. It is this time of year that I always take pictures of the first flowerbulbs and I compare the dates with previous years. Are the crocusses blooming early this year or late? Watching the Canada Geese return after winter and breed in our neighborhood is always a treat. They stay until summer when they leave for colder regions. The huge big weeping willow in our street is a favorite of mine. After a bald winter the fresh green leaves are returning now and they will grow into a beautiful dark green and grey in autumn.
But seasons are not just about nature. You can also focus on everyday stuff like the first time drinking your coffee out on the porch or firing the woodburner up in winter. Activities and sport also tend to change with the seasons. Think about skiing, iceskating and swimming. And what about the food you eat? Hot coco, strawberries, ice cream, turkey, a lot of things are available year round, but some foods are traditionally linked to a certain time of the year.
To help you incorporate more of the changing seasons into your scrapbooking, I have collected these photograpy prompts to inspire you. Choose the ones you like and build your own seasonal recording habits.
Recording the details of the changing seasons is an important part of memory keeping for me. Watching the seasons go by year after year adds a nice and steady background to the growing up and growing older of our family. And it means there is always a reason to take out my camera. Always an excuse to point and click and enjoy my hobbies.
