Hello pad scrappers!!!
I am enjoying this month at the Pad so much and I hope you are, too! I’m hosting today’s challenge and it’s one of my favorites…a simple template. Today, I want to talk to you a little about ways that you can make a template uniquely yours.
When I first started digital scrapbooking I heavily relied on the use of templates and I still use them fairly often. I knew one of my weak points was figuring out page composition and templates truly help with that. Plus, they make excellent use of a limited scrapbooking time! Using some of the techniques for making a template yours that I’m going to show you today will allow you to really get your bang for your buck on the templates in your stash as well.
First of all, I want to show you the template that I am using in all four of the example layouts I’m going to highlight in this post. Then I’ll describe the ways the template was used and changed.
This template was generously provided by the talented Designed by Soco! I love her clean and simple templates that utilize clean lines and minimal elements. You can find all of her templates here.
Layout 1:
This is the layout that I used in my introductory post for today’s Simple Template Challenge. As you can see, it follows the template very closely. The only changes were adding the journaling in different places and changing the title spot as well, but the overall design of the template was kept intact.
Layout 2:
For this layout I rotated the template 180 degrees before I began working on it. After doing that I did have to tweak the shadows a bit to make them look right. It gives a totally different look with the photos and half-circle paper on the bottom rather than the top of the layout.
Layout 3:
In this layout I removed two of the photo spots and enlarged the one photo spot that was left. I’m typically a one photo scrapbooker and use this technique fairly often with my templates. (You can also add photo spots.) I then moved the paper strip and title spot to work with this one photo layout.
Layout 4
I love the way Christa replaced the background paper with a large photo in this layout!! She then shifted the template over to the left so that her amazing sketch work was visible!!
I love how versatile templates are!! I think they are the best jumping-off place to begin an amazing layout.
I can’t wait to see how you use the templates in the challenges for MOC and beyond to make them uniquely yours!
