Welcome to another edition of Snappin’ Sunday.
If you’re like me and can’t take a straight picture to save your life, this tutorial is for you. I use this trick lots and lots. The screenshots are from Photoshop CS4.
Here is a picture I took of my boys playing baseball at a local park. I love the picture but the tilt of the fence behind them makes it looks like they are playing on a hill, when in fact they were not. I tend to forget to look at backgrounds while I’m shooting and quite often have to straighten my images in post processing.
There is a very quick fix for this crooked photo using the Ruler tool in Photoshop. You can find the Ruler tool grouped with the Eyedropper icon on the side bar. Grab the ruler tool and draw a straight line along the horizon, table, fence, whatever you know should be straight. Your image will look like this.
Now choose Image > Image Rotation > Arbitrary. Your image will automatically be rotated to the ruler line and will look like this.
Now you just need to crop your image to eliminate the white canvas and you’re done.
I hope you found this tip useful. Enjoy what’s left of your weekend!
