So how crazy is it that it is almost 2012?! I
What I love about the new year is the potential that comes with it! Of course, you can choose to turn a new page whenever you want, but it seems a lot easier to start at the beginning of the year, when everyone else is doing the same! Plus the obsessive-compulsive side of me loves the neatness that comes with beginning something on 1/1. So I just wanted to give you a quick low-down and inspiration for some projects you can start this upcoming year!
Have you guys heard of One Little Word? Ali Edwards does this every year, where she chooses a word and tries to embody it as much as possible for the entire year. If you choose blessed, for example, the idea is to pause when you are feeling down and remember all you are blessed with. Or perhaps to create more memories that make you feel blessed! The possibilities are endless. I’m going to direct you to Ali’s blog, because she has a much better way with words than me. And if you do decide to choose a word, stop by this thread in the forum and share it with us!
Another project that is huge, particularly with scrappers, is Project 365/52/Life. I’m sure most of you have heard of these. For Project 365, you take a picture every single day for an entire year! I absolutely love this idea, and I looovvveee the albums and pages that get made, but I can never manage to keep it up! I have such respect for everyone who can though. One thing I just started though is Oh Life. It’s sort of along the same principles of keeping track of what you have done each day, because I know I have a terrible memory and totally end up forgetting the day to day details! Oh Life sends you an email every day asking how your day was, and all you have to do is reply to the email with what happened! Sometimes I will write full sentences, like I am journaling about my day, but when I am more tired or have less time, I just do some quick bulletpoints that will remind me when I look back. Oh Life will compile all your emails and you can go to their website and look through your previous entries! They’ll also add a “This is what happened last week/yesterday/a month ago” to their emails and send you your previous entries, which is such fun! It’ll totally bring me back to that day. Sorry, I got really sidetracked because I love Oh Life so much, but the point was.. if you are planning on doing Project 365, this might be helpful for reminders when you go back to journal about your photos!
Project 52 is built along the same principles as Project 365, except you take one picture a week instead of one a day. I am planning on participating in Project 52 this year and will actually be joining MyFourHens Photography’s Flickr Group. Sarah will be choosing a theme each week as inspiration for your photo, but you are totally welcome to choose any photo you want to represent your week if the theme doesn’t resonate with you. I always find it easier to do projects when I’m held a little accountable, so joining the Flickr Group with a bunch of other people who will be working on the same project is definitely going to help! Here’s to hoping I’ll have 52 photos by the end of the year :)
Project Life is Becky Higgins’ spinoff of Project 365. It is also about capturing the everyday, but there is also no pressure if you miss a day. The idea is to document your life in whatever way works best for you! I don’t think I can do Project Life at this point in my life, but I totally want to in a couple of years. I absolutely adore looking at Ali Edwards’ and Liz of Paislee Press’ Project Life spreads, and I know that it would be such a treasure to have something similar for my own life!
If you are joining in with any of these projects, chime in at the forum and let us know!
Hope you have a wonderful New Years Eve! Wishing you all the best!
