Hello everyone! Polly Karen here! It’s May and I’m here to show off the 8 monthly challenges that the Challenge Polly’s have created for this month. Each month we have 8 brand new challenges that are posted in the forum Challenge Pad on the 1st (the BYOC Challenge is posted on the 1st Friday of the month.) You can use the challenges simply to inspire you to keep creating new layouts OR you can also earn yourself a fabulous coupon for your next shopping trip in the Lilypad Store. (2 challenges = 10%, 4 challenges = 20% and 6 challenges = 30%) AND everyone who completes at least 7 challenges will be considered for a one month guest spot on the creative team (The Pollys). So let’s take a look at this month’s new batch of challenges!
1. Style Challenge – The first challenge up for May is the Style Challenge hosted by Anne (AnneofAlamo). Anne is challenging you to create a Clean and Simple layout using no more than 10 elements and featuring a small square photo, no bigger than 3″ x 3″. Here is a gorgeous sample layout Anne created of her brand new grandbaby:
2. Journaling Challenge – This month’s Journaling Challenge is hosted by Renee (renee82). Renee wants you to create a layout and journal about something coming up that your are excited about. Here is a great example page that she created to get you started:
3. Inspiration Challenge – Jenn (jk703) is hosted May’s Inspriation Challenge and she wants you to be inspired by the great outdoors. Jenn created this fabulous two page spread inspired by their hiking adventures:
4. Random Challenge – The Random Challenge for May is hosted by Ashley (ashleywb). Ashley has the prompt “currently” as the inspiration for this challenge. She wants you to create a layout about what you’re up to lately. I love the graphic way Ashley displayed snippets of her life right now:
5. Photography Challenge – The Photography Challenge for May is hosted by Lori (lcpereyra) and she would like you to focus on using photography to capture your subject’s personality. I love that this challenge will force us to be more thoughtful about our subject and how best to capture them. Here is a great layout created to capture her son’s personality:
6. Template Challenge – Julie (mrs2a50) is hosting the Template Challenge for May. The challenge is to use the free template supplied by Sara Gleason and create a layout using it. Here’s a look at the free template followed by a sample created by Julie:
7. Scraplift Challenge – This month we have a super cool twist to the scraplift challenge. Natasha (bcnatty) is hosting this month’s Scraplift Challenge and had the marvelous idea to scraplift TWO of the 8 guest Polly’s chosen from the MOC challenge’s in January. Simply pick one layout from two different guest Polly’s and the create a layout inspired by BOTH of their pages. Here is the list of Guest Polly’s:
Natasha (bcnatty)
Christa (cfile)
Elisa (EHStudios)
Stephanie (Eyeore)
Jeanet (jeanet)
Jen (JenEm)
Karen (KarenB)
Tracie (tkradtke)
And here are the two layouts Natasha choose, followed by her lifted layout:

8. BYOC Challenge – Last but not least we have the BYOC Challenge. This challenge will be hosted and posted by Heather (HeatherB) tomorrow, Friday May 5th, when the new BYOC collection for May will be released in the store. This challenge is to use 90% of the products on your page from the current BYOC collection and from at least 3 designers.
Challenge Galleries: (post your pages to these galleries)
I really love writing up these posts each month and seeing the creative ideas our Polly’s come up with each month!! Once you create your own layouts inspired by these challenges, be sure to post them to the appropriate galleries as listed above. Then be sure to also post them to the appropriate thread in the challenge forum. See the thread HERE for further challenge guidelines and see the May Challenge Pad HERE to get started! Don’t forget to post all of your completed layouts in the Challenge Layouts thread so we can be sure to get you the proper coupon at the end of the month. I’ll be back near the end of the month to shine my spotlight on some of the pages created for these challenges! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Happy scrapping!
