can someone ecplain how you get the initial shape i am using ps cc . i cant figurr it out. a circle or something like a different shape... how did someone make the shape of africa? i need help. thanks ladies. love the challenge cause it is a challenge for me.

(I use PSCC.) I chose an element from the kit I wanted to use. I'm guessing the person who made the shape of Africa just had an Africa-shaped PNG file. I considered using the California or Virginia I have from SwL before I settled on the kit I wanted. I stretched my shape as big as I wanted my biggest opening. Then I held Cmd/Ctrl while clicking on the thumbnail image of the shape in the layers panel, which causes it to select the outer edge of the shape. Then I clicked on the paper layer I wanted to cut from, then hit delete. Cmd/Ctrl-D deselects the shape. Resize the shape smaller, then repeat the above steps as many times as needed.

any tips on how to get shadows to look real. mine are all on one side and i think they should be more even like the light is from above

I learned something about shadowing from Tangie Baxter in her art journaling class a few years ago. Besides using the shadow layer style, I also use the outer glow layer style. It works similarly to the shadow style, but goes entirely around the shape. Adjust the opacity, spread, and size of both layer styles until you like how they look.

For PSE, instead of adding a shadow, duplicate your layer.
fill that layer with the desired color of your shadow. black, dark grays or browns.
(This is going to be a fake shadow layer)
Go to FILTER pull down
BLUR>Gaussian play with the levers and be amazed.
I am almost sure it is there, I am remembering by the seat of my pants.
Blur the layer. Then manipulate it behind your paper. You can erase parts that pop out if need be!
I still do this to get a shadow to work the way my brain sees it.

Thanks @AnneofAlamo, I did find this on sale for $2 which may help those of us using PSE do our shadowing especially to seperate the shadow layer. I’ve already got it ages ago but not played with it so this might be an awesome time to try.

Same. Totally lost! I’ve tried lots of things but failed so far!

I didn't know what I was gonna do here but when I sat down...it all started to come together. What better world to create than the one inside my mind as an infj trying to lose weight has been HARD....I go from two extremes. Either being hard on myself and overthinking and then giving up....or being kind to myself and knowing that I can do this.

The initial shape can be made with the shape tool or a few challenges back when we had to create a title out of a shape, you could use one of those as your starter.

Wow! These layouts are all amazing and so many already! I am still working on yesterdays and will try to think of what I will do - thinking maybe the cover for my album
