January 11: On This Day (Journaling Challenge)

I love the classic Christmas tune, "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth," so when it came Christmas time and you were missing multiple teeth, I made sure that I took a photo of your sweet little toothy grin. You were wearing your Santa hat, which you were absolutely obsessed with and wanted to wear all the time. Of course, you were super cute in it! I don't have any video, but you would sing the song along with me, and it was so adorable to hear your little lisp singing along, wishing you could say Merry Christmas(th). You were only seven years old when I took this photo. I know I say it (way too) often, but it's so true: you grew up too fast. It seems like just yesterday that this milestone happened. As I'm writing this, you are approaching your twenty-first birthday in just three weeks. You know what though? I'll be with you to celebrate all your milestones, no matter your age!

Wreaths Across America, 2017:

Journaling (176 words):
Each December, on Wreaths Across America Day, over 1400 cemeteries in all 50 states, at sea, and abroad coordinate wreath laying ceremonies.

This year, with some of the Linden Robotics team families, we volunteered to help place wreaths at the Great Lakes National Cemetery.

Before meeting the rest of the team, we approached three different trucks, looking for wreaths, only to find out that they were all empty. By the third truck, we were disappointed that we couldn’t find any wreaths. However, one of the team families had grabbed several wreaths for our team, and we arranged to meet near the memorial section, where we were headed to go visit my father’s marker.

Michaila brushed the snow off his marker and wreath while we waited for the rest of the team to catch up with us. (His wreath was placed earlier by the American Legion Auxiliary.)

Once we were together, we looked for an area where there were graves without wreaths and soon had them all placed.

Nathan dug out a wreath buried in the snow.
