January 7 - Heirloom

Do you want the heirloom to be tangible? I do not have any heirlooms nor the philosophy required to find an object in my house to call an heirloom unless I’m just being silly, and my kids are even less sentimental than I am.

However, if you will allow an idea to be an heirloom then I can scrap about my parenting/life philosophy which does come partially from my mom and I can see developing in my kids as well.

After all, this MOC is about putting our hearts in our pages.

Do you have pictures of your Mom etc to go along with your documenting/journaling? It is a stretch on the idea of an heirloom but a photo too can be handed down as an heirloom along with the idea.

Since I avoid my own family like the plague, I decided to go with a heirloom from my husband's family.



As always, I translate the journaling in the gallery, but I'm pasting it here as well, since the challenge is requiring journaling:

Translation:
Family Heirloom
Alfred's coffee grinder
We went down to Småland to see the places where Urban's ancestors had lived. Urban had discovered that he had a 2nd cousin, Alva, who still lived there, and we arranged to come and visit her. It was a really nice time, we had some coffee and chatted. I think Alva was really happy to meet us. It felt a bit like she didn't have much contact with other relatives. Before we left, she wanted to give us some things. Among others, she gave us this lovely old coffee grinder. It has once belonged to Alfred Lindqvist, Urban's great grandfather. In money it's not worth much, but in reality it's price less. A memory from a time lost, and a family Urban never knew before.

Ohhh. This is a painful subject. I lost all my heirlooms, - dozens of them- -including a beautiful table handmade by my grandfather and several handmade pieces from both grandmothers :shakehead 6 years ago in a storage room fiasco. Your idea to "create one" is helpful. @cfile Christa.:-) I do have something that is promised to me- would that fit in the "create" category? Thank you.

Yes Amanda. I am so very sorry you lost your treasures. You can do the one that is promised you. Do you have a photo of it, as a photo is needed for the challenge. Thanks :)
