Journaling:
I inherited this paraffin lamp from my maternal grandmother, it first had a place of honour in my mother's home before landing in mine.
It is a cylindrical wick paraffin lamp: there are many types, each with its own well-defined spout and glass.
It is a lamp with an illuminating flame, which thanks to the fluidity of the oil and its ability to rise by capillary action in the wick, it can reach up to ten centimetres.
I treasure this lamp like the apple of my eye because I have many memories with it.
So beautiful Geraldine! I too have an oil lamp which is a bit different but essentially the same re the wick etc. I love yours with the porcelain vase look to it. It is so very dainty! I am glad too that you inherited it from your mother having it belonged to your grandmother (which by the way, is the same re my lamp ... it originally was my maternal grandmother's!!) The story and memories of your lamp are so wonderful. I really love the photos you have shared of your lamp.. the closeups of the oil reserve and the sweet little boy and girl walking together on the path which is painted into the porcelain. So pretty! Thank you for sharing and playing along with my MOC11 day 7 Heirloom challenge. Well done with the fun frames, and lace.
Very pretty lamp, and lovely page. I love the stitching bit and the lace peeking out. The masking of the main photo and allowing space for it to "breathe" within the tall frame is very cool.
