Envelope Hybrid Tutorial

Hey all, Jewelle here!  I don’t know about you, but for me this past weekend was spent shopping for Christmas presents.  Because of that my wallet is now overflowing with receipts!  Of course I have to keep all of them until after Christmas because what if one of the presents is broken or my daughter decides to have a growth spurt and the brand new clothes don’t fit?  Yet I hate that every time I open my wallet I’m risking having all those receipts fly all over the place, and I end up on the floor frantically picking them all up.  Is this sounding familiar to you?  This weekend I came up with a solution for that problem.  I thought a nice pretty envelope in my wallet would hold all my receipts nicely.  Here is how I went about making my own envelope.

1.  Find an envelope template.  This can be as simple as taking a regular old envelop and carefully opening it up to trace or it can be as complicated as finding one to use with a Sillouette cutting machine.  There are many options out there, just look around and you will find one.  I used a digital template that I had on hand.

2.  Since I was using a digital template I opened it up in Photoshop Elements and clipped a patterned paper from Sahlin Studio’s Key To My Heart Paper Pack.  I also added some circle labels to my template so I could label my envelopes.  Adding the labels is optional, but I like to do it.

3.  Cut out all pieces to your envelope.  As you can see I’m making multiple envelopes, hence all the papers and circles.

4. Score lines for folding.  Again this step is optional, but it helps to create nice crisp edges for your envelope.  I used the scoring board that is pictured but you could simply use just the bone folder.  Isn’t it nice that their are so many options when it comes to crafting?

5. Fold and glue edges of envelope together.  {Remember to not glue the top closed!} Attach labels with glue as well.  This is what my finished envelope looked like.

6.  Now if you are like me you can go a little overboard and make envelopes for more than just your receipts.  I used more of the patterned papers from Sahlin Studio’s Key To My Heart Paper Pack to create my other envelopes.  This way they all color coordinate!

This project is so quick and simple but has a huge impact!  Already I’m smiling with how nice and organized my wallet is.  No more crawling around on the floor picking up receipts.  I also have something very pretty to look at every time I open my wallet up!  I hope this tutorial inspires you get out there and create something pretty for your wallet!
