Heather is a seasoned pro who has created some beautiful DYD’s in the past. She will be letting us peek into her DYD process this year. I am more of novice at the whole DYD thing, but I’m excited and ready to show you my own process! Whether you are hybrid, digital or paper, come join us and Document YOUR December!
When I first thought about doing a DYD album I knew I had to create a plan or I just wouldn’t get my album finished. I sat down with my trusty grid sketch book, and thought through why I wanted to document my family’s December. I really questioned myself if I was doing this because it was “trendy” or was there a real reason behind doing it. I pondered about this and came to the conclusion that December is a special time of year for our family. It is a time of year that I want my children to remember. It is a time of year that deserves a bit more documentation. Even more documentation than what I usually do with my pocket pages and digi pages. And lastly I want my girls to have something to look at that will remind them of the memories we make in December. With all that in my mind I was ready to start planning my album! Before you begin to document your own December I really encourage you to think about what you want to get from doing this project. If you go into the project knowing what your end goal is, you will be able to better prepare your album to reach that goal.
To start my album I first picked an album. I know that sounds like such a simple first step, and it can be! However, you need to keep in mind that this album well set the stage for the rest of your project. A few years ago I tried to do a DYD album that was very complicated. Because of that choice I never got past the first two days. Think carefully about your album! This year I chose to use a red Sn@p binder and a variety of the Sn@p page protectors. Because I’ve been doing project life most of the year I’m comfortable with this type of album, and it isn’t too complicated! LOL! Heather is using a binder as well that is similar to the Sn@p album.
After picking the album came the really fun part! I started gathering supplies! I knew that I wanted most of my pockets to be filled with journal cards from the DYD collection. I browsed the DYD section and printed off these ones. I used Woodland Christmas by Emilie Merritt, Vintage Christmas Alpha Cards by Sahlin Studio, Merry + Bright Digital Papers by Just Jaimee, and Evergreen Journaling Cards by One Little Bird.
Heather has already cut a bunch of hers out. They are ready and waiting for pictures and embellishments to be added to them!
Speaking of embellishments Heather showed us a sneak peek of what she is planning to use! Look at all the pretties!
My embellishments consist of washi tape, bakers twine, mists, alphas, stars, some wood veneers and stamps.
I also printed out a few digi embellishments. I’m giddy with anticipation to use these! For this printable I used Christmas Circles by Emilie Merritt, December Stamps by Lili Niclass, Jolly Holiday Countdown by Peppermint Creative and Joy to the World Postage by Valori Wibbens.
Here is one more picture of all my supplies together.
I’ve got a lot of cutting to do, but I’m ready to start my album now. How about you? Come over to the DYD forum, say hi, and let us know what kind of album YOU will be doing to document your December. Also be sure to stay tuned this month and next for more DYD process’s, tutorials, prompts and inspiration from the Polly’s!
