Creating a Simple Journaling Layout

Hello pad scrappers!!

I love to journal and I’m trying to put more of my thoughts and journaling down on scrapbook layouts. Today I’m going to share with you some of my techniques for creating a simple journaling layout.

The first tip I’m going to share is to have a variety of places to choose journaling prompts from, and create a habit of just writing. I love using the Day One app. It is a journaling app for IOS devices that makes journaling your life so simple! It has the ability to pull in social media posts, but what I’m really enjoying is the daily writing prompts. I created the layout above using one of those daily prompts. The prompts was “What are the most important things needed to live a good life?“. I typed my answer to that question out in the app on my iPhone. Then when I was ready to create a journaling layout, I just pulled it up from there.

I gravitate towards a clean and simple style of scrapbooking and my journaling layouts follow that same style. Sometimes I’ll use a photo, but if I want to focus on the journaling without a photo, or if I don’t have a specific photo in mind to use with the jouraling, I’ll often use an illustration of a person from a scrapbook kit. I loved this girl in the Carpe Diem collab kit by Studio Basic and Little Butterfly Wings.

With a journaling layout, I want my focus to be on the writing. I make sure to keep is easy to read and in a prominent spot on the layout. It is also important to use a font that is legible. I love typewriter fonts, such as The Heavy Hitter by Heather Joyce, which I used on this layout for journaling. I also love using handwriting fonts.

My last tip for creating a simple journaling layout is to keep the elements minimal and relevant. I want them to enhance the overall layout and journaling and not distract from it. On the layout above, I used stars to surround the journaling and an alpha for the title.
