Experimenting with digital mixed media techniques has been so fun for me lately. So fun, in fact, that I've had a hard time finding ways to use all of the graphic journal cards I've purchased along the way. That was until I started blending them to create different cards! Now I can take the graphic cards I love and give them a mixed media look in just a few easy steps. Check it out!Step 1: Open a card you want to start with. I usually start with a simple card that's white based with some black writing or art. On this card by Emily, the watercolor will add to the final effect.Step 2: Choose a paper you want to use. For this tutorial I am using the Pink Reptile Drawn To You Papers. I also often use painted papers when I am doing this technique.Step 3: Drag the paper on top of the journal card, creating a layer above the card with the paper.Step 4: Duplicate the … [Read more...]
Trend Watch – Hand Lettering
Some people doodle with shapes and pictures, I love to doodle with words. I have tried the old take notes with an outline form, and I can write it out, but I sure can't remember it. A few years back in Sunday School (adult one) I found my mind slipping off, counting ceiling tiles and making faces at little kids as out of touch with the speaker as myself. I grabbed an announcement paper from the foyer of the church and pulled out two pens a red and black, and started taking notes. It was like magic, fun and mesmerizing. As time went on, I added different pens and types of papers to my little note taking bag, and have found myself learning and remembering what is taught in Sunday School. I use this technique for so many areas now, to help me remember. In digital art, remembering memories is the same, and you can use words to make a page especially when you might not have a … [Read more...]

Oh Baby! Documenting growth through the first year…
Hi Happy Scrappers!Polly Liana here, sharing a few ideas about how to document a year of growth. If you've ever ventured out with a baby, you know that everyone is constantly telling you how fast they grow. I got the warning so many times, I decided I needed to do some documenting of monthly growth and change. In this case, I'm using my baby, Phoebe who was born last April. When her big sister Morgan was born a few years ago, I would document her growth by taking a photo of her in our blue chair every month…. When Phoebe was born, I knew I wanted to do the blue chair thing again but I wanted to add to it so I could use it like a baby book. I used … [Read more...]
Five Tools for Creating a Mixed Media Look
Recently, I've really gotten into adding a mixed media look to my Project Life pages. In the past, I had been a pretty graphic scrapper, but I have found that adding a mixed media look to my pages allows me to be a bit more creative with how my weekly spreads look. Creating a mixed media look while digital scrapbooking may seem difficult, but it's really not once you have the right tools. These are some of my favorite tools for creating a mixed media look on my scrapbook layouts. Just Jaimee's Gelato Brushes - I use all of the shapes on an almost regular basis. Michelle Godin's Build-A-Mess - These are great for adding a messy, doodled touch to your pages. Karah Frederick's Finishing Touches Collection - I use these as they are named, as finishing touches to add a little something before I finish my layout. Kate … [Read more...]

Polly Pick – Lynne-Marie
This is where I gush about the Polly. I have to tell you EVERYtime it is easy to gush, because the people at the Lily Pad are ALL wonderful. This Polly that is picking is Lynne-Marie, affectionately called LM around the pad! LM has been a friend to me before the Lily Pad (I know you all are thinking, life before the Lily Pad??). Recently, Lynne-Marie spearheaded and encourages so many on the 12 week challenge to love yourself. This was a challenge about changing from the inside and believing in yourself for more. This is LM in a nutshell. She is always pushing herself for more, to change, become better and her work reflects this too! How about Lynne-Marie's own words about her self and style:"My scrapbook style is heavy on paint, stamps and hand-drawn scribbles mixed with paper bits and vintage pieces. I use very few flowers and you'll never find a ribbon on … [Read more...]
