August Challenges
Hello everyone! It’s Polly Karen here back to show off a new batch of monthly challenges. Each month we have 8 brand new challenges that are posted in the forum Challenge Pad on the 1st (the BYOC Challenge is posted on the 1st Friday of the month.) You can use the challenges simply to inspire you to keep creating new layouts OR you can also earn yourself a fabulous coupon for your next shopping trip in the Lilypad Store. (2 challenges = 10%, 4 challenges = 20% and 6 challenges = 30%). Those who complete at least 7 challenges will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift certificate! Isn’t that an awesome prize?!?! You’ll get lots of great memories captured in your scrapbooks AND you could win a fat gift certificate prize!!! Pretty great, right?! So let’s take a look at this month’s new batch of challenges!
SPECIAL NOTE FOR AUGUST – As beautifully written my Julie (mrs2a50): Most of you are aware that TLP and the scrap community as a whole lost a talented designer and special friend in Dawn Inskip last month. I did not know Dawn well, but what I did know, and what I have learned since her passing, is that she was a beautiful person inside and out, and loved by many. She was a gifted artist with a passion for art journaling and mixed media, and her ability to use color and texture made her designs brilliantly unique. She loved nature and animals, and it was clear in her designs and scrapbook pages how much she truly celebrated life. Above all else, she was a wife, mother, friend, who understood how truly important family was.
As a tribute to Dawn, our August challenges are dedicated to her. Each of the challenges (except for BYOC) has some sort of connection to Dawn, either to her designs, to her scrap style, or to her outlook on life. We hope that however you approach your scrapping, you will place a little piece of Dawn in your challenge pages this month, and remember her fondly, as we all do. We all feel the loss of Dawn in some way, but we are all better people to have known her and interacted with her.

1. Style Challenge – To kick off our month of honoring Dawn and her unique style, Em (Justagirl) has aptly picked Dawn’s Style for this month’s challenge. Dawn was know for her ‘fun and funky mixed media art’ so Em is challenging you to mimic Dawn’s great scrapping style and create a mixed media type layout. Here is a beautiful layout created by Em:
2. Template Challenge – Our Guest Polly Desi (GlazeFamily3), is hosting the Template Challenge for August. The challenge is to use the free template supplied by Liz of Paislee Press and create a layout using it. Here’s a look at the free template followed by a sample that Desi created:
3. Photography Challenge – Because Dawn was so gifted at capturing the world around her and especially the little details, Lori (lcpereyra) would like you to focus on capturing those little details and to “find beauty in the little things” Here is a perfect sample layout that Lori created:
4. Scraplift Challenge – The Scraplift Challenge for August is hosted by Christa (cfile) and she has continued the focus on Dawn Inskip by selecting her gallery to scraplift from this month. Simply go to Dawn’s Gallery and select a page that you love and then create your own layout inspired by it. Christa chose this gorgeous page by Dawn and then made a scraplifted version:
5. Random Challenge – Natasha (bcnatty) is the host of August’s Random Challenge and she would like to challenge you to create a page and use 75% of Dawn’s beautiful designs on your layout. If you don’t not have any of her products already Laura has generously provided a little freebie that you could use. Here is a gorgeous sample layout created by Natasha:
6. Journaling Challenge – The Jouranling Challenge for August is hosted by Cynthia (MrsPeel) and she would like you to create a layout and journal about what family means to you. Cynthia created this beautiful layout about her own family:
7. Inspiration Challenge – This month’s Inspiration Challenge, hosted by Ashley (ashleywb), is to take inspiration from Dawn’s words. Ashley has chosen a pack of Dawn’s word art from her store and would like you to draw inspiration and create a layout inspired by one (or more) of these words or phrases:
8. BYOC – Finally we have the BYOC Challenge. This challenge will be hosted and posted by Heather (HeatherB) tomorrow, August 3rd, when the new BYOC collection for August will be released in the store. This challenge is to use 90% of the products on your page from the current BYOC collection and from at least 3 designers.

This is an extra special month for us at The Lilypad to honor our friend Dawn Inskip. I hope that you will be inspired by these challenge this month to capture your own special memories and to not take one single minute of life for granted! Once you create your own layouts inspired by these challenges, be sure to post them to the appropriate galleries as listed above.
