It's August!! Welcome to a new month here at the Lily Pad. With a new month upon us, it means it is time for new challenges! I have the honor this month of hosting the Scraplift Challenge. _________________________________________________________________ The theme of our August challenges are in tribute and memory of our dear friend, Dawn Inskip. Through Dawn's art and creativity over the years we have enjoyed her designs to make our pages pop, allowing us to express ourselves by documenting our own memories. Not only a designer and artist, Dawn also loved to scrapbook. Through her own pages, we got to know a little bit more about her. Dawn had a deep love for her family - Paul and Carly were her world. She loved nature, animals, stuffed bears, Harry Potter, Disney and photography in addition to traveling too. When she would holiday, she would often leave her lovely home in London and travel to NY or Florida in the US. She often said NY was one of her favorite places to visit. Being on Dawn's Creative Team for 2 years, when she would release new illustrations and kits, she would also scrap her own pages too, to post on release day. I was always amazed at Dawn's pages and how she created and illustrated her kits to go with her own photographs and memories too. I loved seeing the pages of her daughter Carly and the "Birds of Prey" she would bring home. Dawn always loved to photograph them and scrap them. "Bagel" or "Midge" the Owls are two of those favorite creatures. Also her beloved "Marvin" the Bearded Dragon that was her pet, would sit with her as she created. Since the August Scraplift challenge is to Scraplift Dawn, please make sure when you look through the gallery that you are choosing a page Dawn herself made from her media pages here. [Dawn's Designer gallery here at the Lily Pad is filled with pages from her CT, the Polly's and the TLP community, in addtion to Dawn herself, so please use the link I posted to make sure you are choosing a page made by Dawn.] Here is the page of Dawn's I am going to scraplift: And here is my page: The instructions for the August Scraplift challenge are simple: Choose a page scrapped by Dawn found here - Gallery for user:dawninskip Post the page you are lifting and your page here in this thread. As always: your page must contain at least 75% Lilypad product. Your page should be posted to the Lilypad Gallery and then linked to the Challenge Layouts thread so it can be tracked, and to this thread. The Lilypad uses a percent system for our challenges' the number of challenges you participate in determines the store discount you will receive at the end of the month: 2 challenges = 10% off 4 challenges = 20% off 6 challenges = 30% off If you complete 7 challenges, you will receive a coupon for 30% off, plus you will be entered to win a $50 gift certificate from the Lilypad! The first seven challenges will be posted on the first of the month' the eighth challenge is the BYOC challenge, which is posted on BYOC release day. Each page counts for one challenge (you cannot use one layout for multiple challenges). I look forward to seeing your pages!
I love that the challenges are honouring Dawn this month. I didn't know her, but I loved her designs. I've chosen to lift this page from her gallery.
I chose this layout by Dawn: My layout: Photo placement is similar, title above, sub-title below and journaling to the right of the photo.
Beautiful lift of Dawn's layout, Christa. I love that we're doing this! I'm going to lift this one: Here's my lift:
Im choosing this layout Can't believe I have been so busy that I'm just getting around to these challenges now.
I am going to lift this page: I love the layers behind the photo with their torn, straight and punched edges adding interest to the page. Here is my version-
Going thru Dawns gallery filled me with joy and made me so sad at the same time... Her talent to create the most magical designs, her love for her family, for nature and animals, it touches my heart. It was hard to choose one page because there were so many that stood out for me, eventually I choose this one, I love the messy look with all the paint and the horizontal placement of elements. My page
i chose this one too i used mostly the bottom 2 thirds to influence my design and that bucket charm was perfect with the eating buckets of fish theme too
So many beautiful pages to choose from. But right now I'm thinking this is the one I will scrap as I love the doodles and whimsical feel of the page. Mine is a somewhat different arrangement but I used one large photo, some paint and doodles & stitching.
