Map Home Decor

Polly Shannon here to share with you one of my favorite DIY home decor pieces. I get compliments on this from everyone who comes to my house. And it’s super easy! First, lets start with the finished product.

I printed out reference maps of each state that we have lived in. They’re easy to find if you do a google search of “(enter state name here) reference map”. Then simply save it and print it. You’ll have to trim it into the shape of the state (I found fine-tip scissors and my xacto knife to be a lifesaver). Once I had mine cut out I chose to indicate the cities that we’ve lived in my stamping on them with a heart-shaped rubber stamp.

Your next step is to mount them. The options are endless really. You could do floating frames. Or one large frame. Or you could back it with a solid color paper. Or you could decide that you are not spending money on another frame and take the inexpensive way out like I did.

I simply cut a piece of thick twine (this one is from Home Depot) and attached it to the back of the frame with my staple gun. Then I adhered the state to that piece of twine with some mini glue dots.

Yes, I have glass in there. The glass stays in it’s own little groves and I have not had any issues with it falling out in the 9-ish months that these have been hanging on my wall. And this cutout of Massachusetts is the only one that has had issues of the glue dots not sticking. I’ve only had to readhere one side 2-3 times.

A closer photo for you.

I hope I’ve inspired you to try a quick and easy home DIY project!
