Hybrid Scrapbooking: Making a Gardening Journal

Hello! It is spring time in my part of the world, and for me that means it is time to get outside and get in the dirt! I love to garden and spend much of my time in the spring and summer months outside planting, weeding, fighting off critters, and trying to get something edible growing. I certainly have a lot of challenges in the garden, but that never stops me from trying! I love to discover new plants and watch them grow. This is one of my favorite hobbies and this year I decided to create a gardening journal to document how the season progresses. Combining my love of hybrid scrapbooking with gardening is a wonderful project!

Using digital scrapbooking supplies to create a customized journal is such a fun project that is easily completed in an afternoon. I simply find papers, journal cards and elements in my digi supplies, add them to a blank page in Photoshop, print the page out, and fussy cut with scissors! You can personalize your project by changing the text, colors, and the size of the elements. To make my gardening journal, I found some great themed kits from Elif Sahin Designs (Garden Helper & Garden Party) and Designed by Soco (Happy Garden). And Paislee Press has a fantastic Field Notes element in her Travelogue Kit that I modified to fit my gardening journal needs. I love how this all came together and can’t wait to use it this season!

Here are some of the elements I printed and cut out for this project:

And here is the beginning of my gardening journal that I created from these digital papers and elements:

I’m excited to continue to add to this journal throughout the season and document what works, what doesn’t, my thoughts, progress photos and use it as a resource for my gardens in future years. This process can be used for so many different DIY custom journals – fitness, self care, crafts, home projects, recipes, travels  – the possibilities are endless. I would love to hear if you create custom journals and what you love about them!
