Hello everyone and happy summer! The most popular season for vacations started last week, so I thought I would share with you some of my favorite ideas for creating travel albums to document your trips.
I have five major trips (from 2012 – 2017) for which I have yet to make official albums, so I have recently been exploring and thinking about how I want to memorialize them. The trips were all pretty significant events involving international travel (London, Edinburgh, Rome, Florence and Paris), so of course I have close to 4,000 photos total to think about (no, I am not exaggerating). The first step for me is culling through all the photos and choosing the ones I want to include. It can be a tedious process, but it also helps me to decide the organization for my albums. As I went through this process, I ended up organizing the photos into folders, with each trip having its own folder. Within each trip folder, I had the following sub-folders:
Photo Organization Ideas
1. A folder for each day of the trip with sub-folders for events during the day (i.e. Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, etc.)
2. A folder where I saved my favorite photos from the trip.
3. A folder where I saved photos related to my favorite moments from each day. I also saved a Word document with journaling about each moment.
4. A foodie folder with photos of the flavors from the trip.
5. A folder with art-related photos (museums visited, sculptures/statues, etc.).
These organizational ideas prompted different theme ideas for the albums I would like to create for each trip. I have already created random pages with many of the photos from these trips, but I have yet to create themed albums with them. I have had books printed with the random pages, which I adore, but I really wanted something that told a more cohesive story about each trip. After reviewing all of the photos, I came up with the following ideas for albums that I will be working on over the summer. I don’t always use templates when I create digital pages, but I find them quite helpful when trying to put together cohesive, themed albums. If you want a quick way to find album templates in the Store, just click on Templates in the Categories on the left side of the storefront page, and then choose Photobooks + Mini Albums and you will get 10 pages of different album templates.
Travel Themed Album Ideas:
1. Chronological albums, organizing each trip by day (or hour, since a couple of them were day-trips that we took from the primary location). The chronological photo organization will really help with these projects. I love the time/date information we have for digital photos too! These will be the largest albums and will likely be created with pocket-style pages.
2. Favorite photos album with one-photo pages focused primarily on the photos themselves. I am thinking of a magazine style presentation for these albums and will probably make one album with photos from each trip.
3. Favorite Moments album that focus more on the stories from the trip and are journaling intensive. I will probably use a magazine style presentation for this album and make one with each trip being a separate chapter.
4. Foodie album, with photos of our culinary adventures from each trip and recipes of our favorite meals – which will require a bit of research, but be totally worth it. I plan is to end up with a recipe book that I will actually use.
5. Art album. My favorite quote of all time is “Art helps me breathe.” I truly love the artistic process and while visiting art museums may be a tedious process for some, it is truly an immersive adventure to me. I plan to create an album with my favorite art museums and pieces, along with the stories behind each one. This album might actually turn out to be my favorite.
I hope you find these ideas helpful when planning your next travel adventures album. Be sure to share your own ideas with us in the comments – we would love to hear them!
Until next time ~
