Hi Pad Scrappers,
Polly Liana here, with a few tips about thank you notes. My family always insisted that we write thank you notes for gifts we’d received. They felt strongly that if someone had take the time to browse, make, purchase, wrap and deliver a gift to you, they aught to be thanked. I share that passion and am diligent about sending out thank you notes. However, a few days after Christmas this year, I fell while ice skating and fractured my right elbow. Obviously, writing became a very painful task (plus my handwriting was barely legible). So, I took to the computer to get the thank you cards done. In doing so, I have some tips if you would also find typed notes helpful. Maybe you write slowly, or writing is painful for your fingers or hand. Just because you do it on the computer, doesn’t mean it has to look typed! Here are some handy tips to make your finished cards look authentic and personal.
1. Use a handwriting font
You may already know this from scrapbooking, but there are countless handwriting fonts that look SO wonderful printed out. In fact, our resident font designer Heather Joyce has made fonts out of several scrappers’ handwriting, including mine! Here’s the one I created:
She has many handwritten fonts in her store, ranging from neat and tidy to swirly and expressive. Check them out here.
2. Use color
A printed handwritten font usually looks more authentic if you print it in a color, like blue or red. Try different samples to see what suits your mood and purpose.
3. Use stationary
Using a single sheet of stationary will make it appear more authentic and it will make it easier to go through your printer. Just test out your layout first to make sure everything is right in the margins.
I hope I’ve helped you “think outside the box” about getting notes written on the computer. If you follow my tips and spend a little time on layout, you can turn out notes that look authentically hand-written! I have never been sad about getting a card in the mail. They’re wonderful and always make the recipient feel great. So go send some cards this week!
