Template Combos

Happy Tuesday all my artsy friends!  I am dropping in with another Template Tuesday tip for you today about combining two templates to make a unique page design.  Some people don’t favor templates because they want a more unique design to their pages.  There are actually lots of ways you can alter a template to make it your own, but one of my favorites is combining two different templates (from different designers) to make your own unique design.

 

Here is an example with a 12×12 template by Cheryl of Fiddle-Dee-Dee Designs and a 6×8 template by Rachel Jefferies:

While you can definitely see the main composition from Cheryl’s Passage Template, it is still a unique design overall with the addition of Rachel’s 6×8 template (store links are included above and in the gallery credits for my page).

If I’m in a deep, cerebral mood, you’ll likely see something chaotic and messy. If I’m more relaxed, it tends to come out clean, simple, and structured.

My brain is usually running on several channels at once, so it’s completely normal for me to be working on a digital layout, dabbling in a hybrid project, and getting messy with art journaling or mixed media—all at the same time.

Here are a few of my go-to tools: Digital: Adobe Photoshop CC + my MacBook; Photos: Canon Rebel or iPhone; Hybrid: Cricut Joy + sewing machine; Art Journaling: watercolors, stencils, and artsticks

And when it comes to embellishments—digital or physical—I’m always reaching for messy threads, ribbons, and Polaroids. Always the Polaroids.
