Hi guys! It’s Polly Monica here to share with you my personal scrapbooking goals for 2017 and give you some tips for making your own scrapbook goals for a new year.
As you can see in this layout I created, my scrapbook goals for the new year are:
- Complete the Month of Challenges (which begins in just a few days!).
- Stay current on weekly Project Life layouts.
- Create and average of one art journaling page per week.
- Create over 100 digital 12×12 layouts during the year.
- Create 3-4 hybrid mini-album projects.
Now, let’s get to the really important part of this post. If you want to make your own scrapbooking goals for the new year, I have some tips to help you formulate those goals and to succeed with them as well!
First of all, when making goals of any kind, remember these three guidelines.
Make your goals doable and realistic, yet challenging. Don’t come up with some astronomical goal that is impossible to meet. Make goals that are realistic for you and your life, while still challenging yourself to go beyond what you’re already doing.
Make your goals measurable. Give your goals a quantitative number. Instead of just saying “scrapbook a lot” give a number of layouts or projects you want to complete by the end of the year. You want to be able to reevaluate your goals at the end of the year and be able to determine if you’ve met them or not.
Make a limited number of goals. This is along the same lines at the first guideline, but deals with the number of goals you give yourself. Don’t overwhelm yourself. I would recommend staying between 3-5 major goals for the year.
And now, let’s talk specifically about scrapbooking goals. In order to be successful in making scrapbooking goals for the new year, follow these two steps.
First, evaluate this years projects. Look back at how many layouts you completed during the year. Did you complete Project Life or another major project? Did you participate in and/or complete MOC last year? Did you learn something new?
And secondly, look at the coming year’s big events so that you can take them into account when goal making for this year. If you know you’re coming into a relatively easy year, you’ll be able to push yourself more with your goals than if you know you have a busy, stressful year coming up. Do you have a move, a vacation or a wedding that you’re planning for this year? Any of those can impact your scrapbooking goals.
I want to leave you will three tips for keeping the scrapbooking goals that you make for yourself this year.
- Share your goals! I would love to share your goals in the comments of this post. You can also discuss them in the forum! Tell your friends and family. Verbalizing your goals will help you keep them.
- Find someone who will keep your accountable with your goals. This may be a family member, a friend or someone in the scrapbooking community here at The Lilypad. This also ties in to my first tip of sharing your goals. This is actually the reason for sharing them. Have them ask you about how you’re doing with your goals throughout the year and keep them updated.
- Make your goals visible. Make a scrapbook layout like the one I made above featuring your goals for the new year, print it out and keep it visible in your work space. Or, even simpler, just write it down on notebook paper or in your planner and keep it on your desk so that you’ll see it often.
Well, as you can see, goal making is kind of my jam, especially at this time of the year! I truly love it!! It keeps me motivated and I hope that you’re already thinking about your own scrapbooking goals for 2017.
Let’s make it a year full of creative memory keeping!
