Hello all my artsy friends! I am dropping in today with a quick tip for using portrait orientation photos in a landscape frame. Have you had the perfect photo for a page, but the design just didn’t call for the orientation? I find that I take many more portrait orientation photos (taller than the width) than I do landscape photos (wider than the height). I also tend to design my pages before I think about the photos I will use on them. Sometimes as I am designing (or using a favorite template) I find that a portrait orientation photo just doesn’t work.
A quick tip for dealing with those situations is to split the landscape frame and include the portrait photo on one side. You can see how I used the technique on this page:
One of my favorite things to pair a photo with is a journal card. I created a border between the photo and the card with the edge of another frame in the kit. You could also using stitches, washi tape, a strip of paper, a line of buttons or any other decorative border you might find in the digital kit.
And there you have it – problem solved! I love it when there is an easy fix. :) I hope you enjoy playing with this technique on your pages.
Until next time ~
